Multi-Generational Family Tension. Fun!

I’m sorry to unload on you, but I had to share this.

Tomorrow I am going down to Arkansas with my esteemed parents to visit my grandfather, my Wicked Stepgrandmother™ plus various aunts, uncles and cousins. It’s not going to be fun. My grandfather is currently upset with my aunts and mother for planning the whole trip, even though it’s to celebrate his belated birthday. My Wicked Stepgrandmother™ will surely use this opportunity to belittle me as she does every time I visit. Hopefully the visit with the cousins won’t be too difficult, as we see each other too rarely for any animosity to form.

I know this is nowhere near as bad as other families. But I’m girding myself for the trip and praying I have enough strength to refrain from bashing my Wicked Stepgrandmother™’s head in with her own damn ashtray. Did I mention my grandfather has suffered a series of minor strokes which may have affected his brain function? And I think my WSG™ is using that to her advantage, as she had been planning a few months ago to put him in a home if he got “too difficult.” She doesn’t want us there, so he doesn’t want us there.

Twenty-four hours,. It’s only twenty-four hours. ::sighs::

(What? No I just grabbed the bra strap by accident! Really! Yes with my teeth, how do other people do it?)

I hate visiting family. Mine is odd beyond belief. For example, my uncle recently decided that he doesn’t want to talk anymore. Didn’t give a reason why, just told his (soon to be ex-) wife that he didn’t want to talk anymore. So now when he comes to a family function he just stares at you with an idiot look on his face. If there is anything that requires him to speak, he whispers it to my grandmother.

I’m guessing he’s got a major screw loose.
