You have to be crazy to want to go into the mental health field.
I guess this makes this a case of pre-traumatic stress syndrome?
It is thought that he is an American born convert to Islam…
His family has been adamant that he was born a Muslim, not a convert.
And he was born in Virginia.
How unfortunate now that we must use taxpayer money to keep him alive. If he had died than everything would have ended cleanly. But than again if he lives this will shut up any potential conspiracy theorists.
Also look at the previous massacres related in some sick, twisted way to this one:
If we want a 2nd Amendment, this is always going to be the price.
The fact that the shooter was reported as dead so long and then turned up alive strikes me as quite odd.
I think things might end more cleanly with him alive and able to be questioned. When the murderer’s impetus is shrouded in mystery there is a greater possibility of people assigning whatever motives fit their own views rather than the motives that actually existed. If Lee Harvey Oswald had lived I bet the grassy knoll conspiracy theorists would be more hard pressed to stick to their craziness.
Has it been established that his guns were legally obtained?
Illegal guns generally are stolen legal guns. The Second Amendment pretty much guarantees a limitless supply of guns for criminals; America is the armory for much of the underworld, including beyond our own borders.
I’m assuming that since he was an Army officer on a heavily secured military base that he obtained them and brought them onto the base legally. If not, then security at Ft. Hood is atrocious.
I think personal firearms are supposed to be stored in an arms locker along with all the other guns. You aren’t supposed to have a personal weapon on your person or in your barracks or home while on base. Security is as good as it can be while still remaining practical on a base the size of Ft. Hood, a base that depends on thousands of people moving on and off base all day long. If you search every car you’ll have absolute gridlock and nothing will get done. It’s just like a border crossing, they try to get all the drugs they can, but it’s just impossible to get all of them while still making the crossing practical.
Same here, I can’t recall that ever happening before.
One wonders if it was deliberately false information, to keep away the vigilante lynch mobs from the hospital. As much as I’d love to see this crazy motherfucker swing from a tree, it’s better that justice take its course.
Aw jeez…we’d have these shootings anyway, even without the 2nd Amendment. Anti-gun places like Japan and Finland have random shootings just like the U.S., but since innocent civilians aren’t allowed to own guns, the body count tends to be higher.
I caught some commentary on one of the news shows earlier where someone from the base was saying that it was actually pretty common for guys at the readiness center to walk around with their weapons, and for officers to carry sidearms. They aren’t supposed to carry live ammo, though.
They’re far more rare in countries with gun control, and your assertion that the body counts are higher is just made up.
How many of these shooting sprees in the US get stopped by other civilians with guns? None. They shoot themselves or get shot by the cops.
Having a bunch of Dirty Harrys trying to be heroes and blasting away with their own heaters is what would raise the body count and make law enforcement’s job a bigger nightmare.
ETA I support the 2nd Amendment, by the way. I just think it has to be recognized that this is the price.
I would be startled if the second amendment had anything to do with a member of the military carrying a weapon.
Everyone, let’s not make this a gun control thread, this has nothing to do with gun control.
That might be true and if so that’s a horrible security problem, but I’m pretty sure the rules (for what they’re worth) are what I mentioned. I’ve been on the base a fair number of times and never seen a gun on somebody that wasn’t a cop of some sort but I’ve only been in a few limited areas so it’s possible.
What do you mean what am I talking about? The 2nd Amendment doesn’t apply to military personnel? This guy was a psychiatrist. I doubt his weapons were standard issue.
