This is a thread about what happened yesterday at Fort Hood. If you want to argue about issues related to the shooting, go for it. If you want to talk about Huerta88’s character and imply negative things about him, do it in the Pit. You’re not allowed to do it in this forum. So take any further comments about Huerta88 to the Pit and any questions about this decision to ATMB.
At a minimum this attack raises some questions about how the military deals with people who are not doing well psychologically and do not want to be in the military. Even among those people, very few would ever do something like this, but it may be a good reason to work on that issue.
I’ve been wanting to say, “Physician, heal thyself” and suck up to a Mod since we discovered the guy was a psychiatrist.
It has probably become a much larger problem given that soldiers are no often redeployed.
Well, now it is known the man is still alive, they need to try and make sure he stays that way. As long as the incident hasn’t overloaded his mental state, considering his profession, it should be interesting to see what he has to say for himself.
Maybe he could eventually confess that he was in a dark place, and allow his statements to be broadcast to the muslim world, admitting the wrongness of his actions.
There has got to be a way to make a positive out of this, or it is just going to add fuel to a growing fire.
Look, the whole “God is Great” thing is pretty much exactly the same thing as “Praise Jesus!” in the south. If you’re going to flip out and die, you might as well die with the Lord’s name on your lips, but it’s not like people don’t use it for other reasons. The question really is, was Major Fuckwad a terrorist or just a spree killer? And we can’t find that out till we find out his motivation. Right now, I’m leaning against terrorist. Nobody’s claiming responsibility.
Christianity has been blamed for most (all?) anti-abortion terroristic attacks. Anyone who kills a doctor who performs abortions gets praise and support from anti-abortion Christians.
It may or may not be terrorism, but I don’t think anybody is suggesting this is connected to any terrorist organization. He’d been in the military for about 20 years.
And now in Florida an office is being shot up. At least 8 people are injured. Fuck.

No, but how much random shooting can happen in a week? I am sure I’m going to have to listen to my parents babble about how this shooting was based on religion as well.
Actually, most times there is anti-abortion violence I see Christian leaders condemn it. If you have seen this praise and support from mainstream Christian groups and leaders I’m sure you would be happy to provide cites, right?

People look for connections to make sense of things. It’s easier than to believe in utter chaos.
Just for reference, a Pit thread about the Orlando shooting. The alleged shooter has been arrested and one person is confirmed dead at the office building. The killer supposedly was laid off from a job at that office (an architectural firm, I think) two years ago. It’s a freaky synchronicity but there’s no reason to consider a connection to what happened at Fort Hood.
I have to say I’m glad he’s not dead. Often times when this type of event occurs, the guy either offs himself or is shot down in a hail of bullets by police. For once I want to know what was going through the guy’s head when he commited the crazyness.
You didn’t read this right, and I am correct, not incorrect. The noun was “killers” and the modifier was “non-Islamist-motivated.” And the statement is essentially 100% true. Of the population of killers, some are Islamist-motivated, some non-Islamist-motivated. The former group are <more than zero> likely to launch a rampage with Allahu Akhbar. The latter sub-group of killers are <zero> likely to do so.
The fact that some separate population of non-killers also uses the phrase has nothing to do with what I actually said.

Don’t wish too hard. John Allen Muhammad has an execution date set for four days from now - and in all of this time nobody has received any clear explanation for his actions.
According to CNN he had a conversation with a store clerk prior to the shooting and his conflict was not going into a war zone, his conflict was with killing Muslims.
