Muppet News Flash!

Who is Kermit and Ms. Piggy? You mean Elmo, and only Elmo, don’t you? What kid today knows who the Muppets are? By the way, this Muppet of Oz or whatever show you mention was soooo well publisized.

Today, the Muppets are alive somewhere in hibernation, I guess. Along these same lines, I’ve heard grumblings from today’s parents how even Sesame Street has gone pop - looking for the quick buck instead of clinging to its founding values. Although there is a “letter of the day”, I hear they don’t even bother to run through the whole alphabet anymore. It takes too much time away from the money-making parts of the show, starting with Elmo’s World.

Wow, that was such a disappointment. It was, however, substantially better than The Wiz.

That was one of several things that made it clear that the writers had read the book and weren’t just ripping off the Judy Garland movie.

Along with the fact that they had all four witches instead of collapsing North and South into one.

Apparently, they had to stick to the book because they feared that Turner Entertainment would sue them if they made any jokes or references to the film. (The only joke regarding the film was the subtle one I mentioned earlier.)
