Muppets' New Movie = Flop?

Is it just me, or do the previews for the new Muppet movie look terrible? I think Brian Henson is just wanting TOO much to be his Dad. I’m sorry, Brian, but you don’t have the gift (based on all you’ve done). Other opinions???

At D23(Disney convention), a reviewer seemed to like what they showed.

Jason Segal was one of the writers for it and is apparently a huge fan of the Muppets. That sounds kind of unusual to me, but it also sounds like an “outsider” to the Muppets franchise might actually be able to pull it off.

I haven’t trusted anything posted on AICN in years.

Still, I hope this is a good movie.

He made it the high point of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Brain Henson is continuing to work in a world in which he’s been immersed since childhood. He didn’t wait unti his father’s death to quit his accounting job to begrudgingly take over the family business- he had been working alongside his father since before he even reached adulthood. He is dedicated to a stewardship of The Muppets in a way that none of his father’s colleagues, including Frank Oz, could ever be.

The made for T.V. movies of the past decade have been lackluster, but Brian Henson directed A Muppet Christmas Carol, which was quite good, as well as Muppet Treasure Island- which was fucking awesome. The 90s T.V. series Muppets Tonight! was excellent, the recent children’s T.V. series have been good, particularly Sid the Science Kid. And the original shorts for The Muppets YouTube channel have been brillaint.

Beside which, his involvement with the upcoming movie is simply as head of the company, in addition to performing a few of the minor characters that he’s been performing for years. He’s not listed as Director nor Producer. He’s been creatively hands-off on this particular project.

As Intergalactic Gladiator mentioned, Jason Segel is the main writer. The director is James Bobin, who directed much of Da Ali G Show and Flight of the Conchords. I’m quite interested to see a guy like that share his creative input on a Muppets project.

And it’s probably not just you who thinks the previews look terrible, but from previous discussions on this board it seems not to be a majority opinion.

How can it possibly be a flop before it’s even been released? And my understanding is that the new Muppet movie is, like the new Winnie the Pooh movie, intended to move merchandise as much as sell tickets. So box office revenues don’t matter as much.

Seconded… laik uh bawsz!
