Murfreesboro--there seem to be a lot of Dopers from the 'Boro. Poll.

Hi.

As I post on this Board, I seem to be noticing several posters from Murfreesboro, Tennessee besides myself.

This is odd, because
[li]Murfreesboro is not that big a town[/li][li]We do not get the Straight Dope in any local paper, to the best of my knowledge[/li][li]Hi Opal.[/li][li]This place, admittedly, ain’t a hotbed of intellectual fervor[/li]
Boro Dopers-- please post here, & tell me how you got hooked up with the Straight Dope.

How’d you hear about it?

Murfreesboro??? So uhh what happened to the mighty Blue Raiders? They were supposed to pull off some upsets this year and now look like they might be the worst team in 1-A. What gives??

I lived there for about six months, but that was…lessee… I graduated college in '95…started working for the loan sharks in '96, which means I lived there from May-October 1997.

But when I was there, I was not a doper - that didn’t happen until Atlanta (3 towns later).
There seem to be a bunch of Tennessee dopers around lately - a TennDope could be in order, eh?

I lived there for about 10 years. Strange how after I move out, Dopers move in. (I left a couple of months before Lsura moved there.)

Wow. My wife lived there for a few years as a kid (even went to the Webb school). I’ve never heard anyone mention that town except her.

Hey I live in the 'Boro…Well some would have said I lived in the Boro bar & grill several years ago when I worked there. I heard about the straight dope from several dopers who I worked with in Gallatin, TN. But I was introduced to the boards by Tuckerfan.
Wanna hook up and have a cup of joe sometime Bosda?

I live in Knoxville, which is 160-odd miles away. I know this isn’t exactly germane to the thread, but what the hey. You’re right though, there seems to be a fair number of Tennesseans on this board. It likely has to do with the fact that the citizens of this state aren’t exactly the most intellectually stimulating people you’ll ever find.

Count me in.

Just living here while I work on that pesky Aerospace degree.

I suppose it’s time to have a Tennessee gathering then…How do you suggest we go about this?

There have been two gatherings, both busts.

The first fell flat because of some bad judgement on my part.

The second all but didn’t happen. 3 people showed up.

I’m in Rutherford County, outside of Smyrna.

StG

Second one could have been a fluke. I know a lot of people showed interest, but had last minute things come up. I ended up having to work.

No reason not to try again, though.

I don’t live there anymore, but I grew up in Smyrna and went to MTSU in the Boro. This is the second time I have seen someone mention M’boro on here, and it has freaked me out both times. I mean…of all places.

The second one a bust? Yer just sayin’ that coz ya got yer [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132340]ass kicked, Bosda!

Well, I used to attend Sewanee, which isn’t that far. Now I’m taking a semester off and probably going to transfer, though.

Still, a get-together isn’t impossible.

If this is turning into plans for a get-together, it belongs in MPSIMS. I think I’ll just toss it over the fence.

I’ve lived in the 'Boro now for about five years – with luck, I’ll finish my degree this year and move on to yet greater glory.

I’ve actually been a Straight Dope fan for a long time – I read Cecil’s first book in around 1989, but I’ve never lived anywhere that had a newspaper that carried the column.

Speaking of which, when’s Cecil gonna write another of his literary triumphs? My bookshelf would look much sexier with another SD volume on it.

Watch for my next post in another year or so!

I live in Murfreesboro, and have for about a year and a half.

I’d definitely be down for a get-together. It would be fun!

Joey G, did you say Aerospace degree? What aspect? My SO is doing Aerospace tech at MTSU.

Aerospace Maintenance Management. I am also taking a lot of Pro-Pilot courses, working my way up to MEI.
