Murphy's Law

We all know about Murphy’s Law, does anyone know who Murphy was?

Check http://www.hithere.com/murphy/origin.htm for one answer.

Well this doesn’t answer your question of who Murphy was I thought it was interesting.

Well, kesagiri’s link shows some really cool scientific studies of corrolaries (sp. is definitely wrong) of Murphy’s Law. Has anyone ever done a scientific study of whether Murphy’s Law itself is accurate? I think advances in chaos and complexity theory might make such a study possible (at least through computer modeling).

How about “O’Toole’s Commentary to Murphy’s Law” - Murphy was an optimist!

Reader’s Digest once ran an article on Capt. Murphy. I’ll see if I can find it when I get home.

Here is some background information on a series of important events in Murphy’s life. They might give you a little perspective as to the “scientific” basis for his theory:

–He was vacationing in Hiroshima back in early August 1945…

–An elephant killed his pet puppy while on an African safari.

–A meteorite fell on his ass when he was a kid. The poor dude couldn’t ever fart again.

–A lightning bolt struck his dick while taking a leak on the park, leaving him impotent for life. Unfortunately there was no Viagra back then…

–His father was a passanger in the Titanic.

–His brother died in the Hindenburg accident.

–He was a Red Sox fan born in 1919.

–A bird once dropped fecal matter on his 1908 Honus Wagner card. Auch!!!

–His Gutenberg Bible was burned by the Nazis.

And, number 1 reason that motivated Murphy to enunciate his law:

– His wife left him for a circus midget.

And, by the way, his real name wasn’t even Murphy, it was Jackson. The only good thing that ever happened to him and he doesn’t even get proper recognition for it. A fitting irony if it ever was any.

Murphy’s Law was not created by Murphy, but by another man of the same name.

So it should not be called Murphy’s Law. Instead they should name it Murphy’s Law.
