Music trivia question (heard on a Crap from the Past episode)

There are lots of songs where the octave jump is in the chorus. Maybe fewer songs where it’s in the verse? Maybe he’s limiting it to well known pop songs? Idk.

I don’t think it’s as common as people think. There are plenty of pop songs by duos or multi-singer groups with different octaves to suit each singer, but it’s pretty unusual for a solo singer to change octaves.

Which is why I noticed it - I have a narrow vocal range and always had trouble with these.

I think so too - because I feel like Mariah Carey does this all the time (Even though they only list one of her songs). And I think Celine Dion does it.

Also, playing “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” once is kind of campy fun. 4 times is a kind of torture.

I’ll gloat even if you all are being sore losers.

Damn, I thought it was going to be “people who have never been in my kitchen”.

I finally had a chance to listen to last Friday’s Crap from the Past episode in which Ron “Boogiemonster” Gerber gives the answer to the trivia question. #needscoffee and I technically had it exactly right, but there was an extra detail in Ron’s answer: one of the later verses in each song is sung an octave higher than the first verse.

I added that in post #19.

You’re right! I didn’t notice that earlier.
