That was excellent.
Chopin’s Polonaises.
Lately, a lot of Oum Kolthoum, particularly Baeed Anak. My recording of Baeed Anak is around 40 minutes long (the lady was epic); the youtube clip is only 6 minutes of the performance.
Nothing right now, but on high rotation in the last few days…
Some old favourites:
Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
A new release from a favourite band:
Explosions in the Sky - Take Care
And an obscure early music classic I’ve loved for many years:
On the Way to Bethlehem (Music of the Medieval Pilgrim)
Lately it’s either been any of the Strung Out albums or a YouTube playlist of Bad Religion. So good.
The Man in Black, Johnny Cash, the two “bootleg” Cds that came out recently.
Krang - Gluut.
Children of the Grave - Sabbath. haven’t listened to this in years.
A recent discovery for me – Motherfuckers Be Trippin’ by Supersuckers. Rock of awesomeness.
Azam Ali - Neni Desem
Death Cab for Cutie’s new album Codes and Keys. It comes out today but it’s been streaming on NPR’s site for a week now. Solid effort.
The new Peter Murphy single “I Spit Roses” is available as a free download at Amazon right now, so I’ve been listening to it. (Bauhaus split up again.) “Roses” is interesting, it seems to fall somewhere between Bauhaus and his usual solo sound.
I’m also listening to Diorama, which is German Industrial-ish dance. Also the new Duran Duran, which is very fun.
At this moment Inhumanifesto by ‘Scare Tactics’ (actually an unnamed New York-based band Len Kaminski hired to perform the song).
Jeb Loy Nichols. Because it’s always Jeb Loy Nichols.
On bouncy days: Neil Finn, Eliza Doolittle, and Jeb Loy Nichols.
On edgy days: Black Keys, Magnetc Fields, and Jeb Loy Nichols.
Kesha’s Cannibal album
Under-rated? Have they been forgotten in the mists of time already? I beg to differ, Steely Dan is one of the most awesome bands in the history of music, selling millions upon millions of records, winning a Grammy for record of the year, and is, IMO, a virtual vertabrae of the backbone of rock. Or rather jazz/rock. I think their music is going to live on as classic, because it will never sound ‘dated’.
I’m all into listening to Lady Gaga lately, and may bring my laptop over to my 80-something mom’s house so we can watch her together on the youtubes. ![]()
Shpongle - The God Particle
Which are these?
I’m currently listening to Bob Dylan - Together Through Life, and have recently started listening to Mumford & Sons after seeing a link here.
