My god, it’s like Penthouse for axes.
Thank you for sharing. I’m drooling and I don’t even play guitar.
Oh man, I got GAS real real bad.
Wow, I didn’t know Martin made Strats now!
It was a cunning disguise, M’Lord…
I’ve been trying to keep my GAS in, but sometimes it seeps out. I bought a new Babicz steel-string this year which I don’t need and can’t afford. I’m going to have to sell something…and I HATE that.
I’m a guitar player, but also double other instruments, so I don’t know where that puts me vis-a-vis the OP. I own several guitars–having 2 of each type is important because what if one breaks during a gig? So I have 2 electrics, 2 steel strings*, only 1 nylon string because I don’t gig with that very often. Also a couple of rack synths, a JX-8P, several keyboard controllers. Then there are the winds: trumpet, flugebone, flute, 2 recorders, 2 harmonicas, digeridoo, pan pipes. And finally percussion: claves, rain stick, fish, cowbell. And a Chinese Pipa. With lots of electronics, of course. I think it’s indicative that our 4-piece band has a 20 channel mixer (with 4 monitor mixes) for gigs, not counting the drum sub-mixer and my guitar+keys sub-mixer. We even need about 12 when we play acoustic.
I’m sure I’ve missed something–I don’t play out much any more.
“Why?” is a difficult question. I hate to part with them because they’re just cool, I suspect. Sort of the same reason I have a full collection of Discworld hardbacks and most of the Carl Sagan books. 'Cause I like 'em! They’re classy!
IMHO, reed players who have alto, tenor, flute (or some such combo) are not affected by GAS since they might actually need those during a gig. Clearly as_u_wish’s daughter has progressed beyond this.
- OK, I have 2 steel-strings that I take to a gig. In therapy I have confessed to having: Taylor, DanElectro, Kay, Babicz, Ibanez, Washburn, and 2 Martin travel guitars (one broken which is now a clock). Hey, I don’t have a 12-string!
Seven Martins, one Strat, and a keyboard, OK? Geez!
Unfortunately, that was before I started documenting the guitars that come through the shop. They’ll be back before the end of the summer, though.
