I ask because I would like to mute threads about him (along with Trump and P&E) for a day or two each week to help maintain my sanity.
I assume this is something the mods have to do.

You can have one, but I won’t be maintaining it, so not much use I suspect.
If another Mod wants to ride herd on it though, then it could work.
Tag created.
Thanks.
So some tags are applied by mods and others by users? I guess I’m not clear on just how they work.
Also, as I think I mentioned here some time ago, some Trump threads still show up after I’ve muted the tag. Is that because I’ve participated in those threads?
Only Mods can create tags.
The OP can apply existing tags to their thread when they create it.
Later on, only a mod can attach a tag that the OP neglected to.
Since few users think about tags, very few OPs attach tags to their threads. So poor hard-working @What_Exit is a self-appointed tag janitor to add them later to threads where they ought to have been added at create time by the OP.
Once the tag is made by a mod, any user can use them when they create their OP. But many do not, so I would guess 40% of the elon-musk threads won’t get tagged. I just tagged the 12 most recently active ones, but that is all I have time for.
I could set up an auto-tagger, but for Musk that seems difficult and cause more false tags than positives.
I’ve been overwhelmed lately and handle most of the tagging.
I see. Okay, thanks @What_Exit and @LSLGuy, for the explanations, and @What_Exit for your Musk tagging on my behalf.
I assumed it was at least a partially automatic process, and didn’t intend to put anyone to significant ongoing trouble.
I appreciate the work that you and the other mods do to keep the boards running. Thank you.
If we were to do a Musk tag, we’d need two of them, one for Billionaire Musk (Tesla, SpaceX, etc.) and one for DOGE Musk (all politics.)
Ditto!
Why not have the tag be simply “musk” and therefore auto-apply? There probably isn’t enough discussion of Jovan Musk, muskmelons, or musk oxes to generate many false positives.
Musk is so far up Trump’s anus, the two are essentially inseparable on these fair boards. Muting Trump ought to mute Musk by default, without the need for an additional tag.
I would recommend muting Trump and P&E entirely and not just for a couple days a week, if’n you want to maintain mental health, TBH. I did this, along with curbing exposure to national news, a while ago, and it works!
I just added a jd-vance tag also.
