Muting a specific application in Windows

Is there any way to mute a specific application under Windows XP? I’m trying to play Flash games in Mozilla while listening to my MP3s with WinAmp, but many of the games have sound and no option to turn it off. So, I’d like to be able to silence Flash or Mozilla or whatever I’d need to do to prevent the games from making noise. Is this possible?

Try this
Start->Programs->Accesories->Entertainment->Volume Control. From that menu mute (or turn down) the Wave volume.

Now that I reread your post, you’re talking about games (as opposed to general Windows sounds. I would just try experimenting with the different volumes (Midi, Wave etc… You could also go into the options menu and enable some of the other volume controls and try those as well.

Unfortunately turning down the volume controls turns down the music volume as well.

Are you sure that when you right-click on the Flash app, the little control menu that comes up does not allow you to mute the sound?

Doesn’t look like it.

There is a program called OpenWorld Flash Digger, which, among other things, claims to be able to save a muted copy of a .swf file. Here is a link to it.

I have not used it, so you will want to be sure to check it for spyware, virusses, etc. before you load it.
