Now, I harbor no illusions about being the fastest to get to 50 posts on this board… I only joined on Saturday, I believe. (Mar. 16, 2002) BUT… should I at least make a point of it? I mean, relatively speaking, 50 is such a small number on this board, that it would seem almost insignificant! Well, I’m making a point of it, anyhow! Just thought I would be bold about it, that’s all! (or at least crazily giddy like I seem to be most of the time)

Current board etiquette says that throwing yourself a post party is bad form. The only right way is if someone throws one for you and there are some people that will even bitch about that.
That said, welcome to the boards, congratulations on hitting 50 and…
And what the heck is going on with people suddenly thinking FIFTY is some kind of milestone? I remember, back in my day, when we had to walk uphill both ways to get yelled at for throwing ourselves post parties at 100. And we were thankful.
It’s so weird, I’ve seen like three 50-post parties in the last several days.

I think I’ll start a thread later up in General Questions asking if someone can tell me what general board etiquette is; though I have sort of an idea, I’d like to know more, so I don’t inadvertently do something I’m not supposed to. Then again, sometimes I have been known to do just that… ask my parents! sigh…

Flamsterette_X, according to Doper custom, in addition to supplying beer and chips (green onion next time), anyone reaching 50 posts should also reward each poster who visits her celebratory post with a large monetary gift.
Somehow, green onion chips don’t appeal to me, but I see the point in appealing to a broad spectrum of people! And as for large monetary gifts, I’m not sure how I’d get it to you all!

Well, that’s certainly funny! I have never had any hamsters, so that can’t be it! (of course, there were the times that I went over to a family friend’s house and looked at/played with their four hamsters until they all died, but that’s another story) Thanks for saying that… it made me smile! It could be just that you have hamsters on the brain for some odd reason!
Maybe it will help if I give an explanation of what it means, but probably in another thread. Otherwise, this one will really get sort of off-topic!
