My Amazing Arkansas Adventure

Okay, so it’s not amazing. In fact, it’s about as mundane and pointless as you can get. But it’s my story, darn it!

I went down to lovely Fayetteville, AR this weekend to visit my two-month-old niece, Cheyanne. And she is just beautiful. I got to hold her and everything! And seeing as how I hadn’t held a baby in about twelve years, I was a little nervous at the prospect. As it turns out, my torso is too short to hold her properly and I had to put a pillow in my lap. But I got to hold her nonetheless. She was warm and wriggly and not as heavy as I expected. She looked up at me with those big blue eyes as if to say, “I’m related to you?

I think my mother was the real baby hog, though. She was pleased as punch at being a grandmother. She cooed at Cheyanne and talked to her and held her as much as she could. I started to get a little jealous!

On the way home, we had to take a detour through Pierce City, MO to avoid road construction. Unbenknown to us, that town had suffered a devastating tornado a few weeks earlier. I have never seen so much rubble and debris in all my life. That town was leveled. It looked like a warzone. It made me think of all the tornadoes I’ve been through, and how all of them have missed my town. I realized I am extremely lucky.

Anyway. After a seven and a half-hour car trip, I’m glad to be home. Did anyone miss me? Anyone notice I was gone?

And you are…?

j/k

Glad you had a good trip.
