My Astro hat's off to the Cardinals

That should be a great one, especially with Clemens finally on normal rest. It’s getting pretty close to where I think Clemens is definitely going to retire, especially if the Astros win the World Series.

I don’t think I can take Game 7. My stomach is a mess right now. I don’t have any idea the guys on the field take it. Especially the managers. I understand why, back when he was managing the Mess, er the Mets, I saw Davey Johnson eating Rolaids like they were candy.

Anyway, supplies needed for tomorrow night’s game:

Maalox/Rolaids/Tums: check

Blood pressure machine: check

Anybody got a defibrillator I can borrow?

Oh, and if anybody here has the ability, could you please change me into a fly if the Red Sox win tonight? I want to be on the wall in every room King George is in for the next week if the Yankees lose.

*I love it!

ESPN’s baseball page headlines: 7 card studs.*

I want to say one thing…the Cardinals and Astro teams and fans are the best in any league. To me the Astro’s and Cardinal’s fans are nothing short of “Southern Hospitality”. When I watch a Cubs, Sox, Yankee and even the Rangers I am appalled at the behavior of those fans. From what I have seen in this series the fans of the Astros and Cardinals have been a class act.

Lieu, this has been one hellva playoff battle. It has been a pleasure in playing a team and fan base of such high caliber. Niether fan base is claiming a curse or voodoo, witch craft, whatever on loses. Both teams are coming toe to toe, face to face and it is refreshing.

May the best team win tomorrow night. My hopes of course are with my beloved Cardinals. If not, you guys played hard and deserved to win it. Which ever team advances…MAY THE NATIONAL LEAGUE PREVAIL AND WIN THE WORLD. God how I hate that wimp ass American league and the DH. (teach them how to bat for crying out loud or don’t put them in the game!)

No worries. Your wife is certified in CPR. I can keep you alive if you have a heart attack until the medics arrive.

Let’s go Cardinals!

Thanks for the kind words, lieu. Althought I’ve lived in SF for over ten years, I grew up there and will always be a die-hard Cards fan.

I sit here and shake my head at all the angry hatred spewing forth from my friends that are Sox and Yankees fans. Cards fans just aren’t like that. When we lose - it’s OUR fault. Sure, we question manager calls just like everyone else, but we don’t blame the moon and the stars when we lose. Even Denkinger’s terrible call didn’t cost us the series - we did, by phoning in the next game. Blows my mind how Yankees and Sox fans are ready to blame anything but their own shortcomings, and attack each other. If the Astros win, they deserve it. I’m not going to storm the streets looking to kick someone’s ass if it happens.

Yeah, but if you’re doing that, then you can’t watch the game comfortably. I mean, you’ll have to position him so that you can kneel and compress with your head in a position to see the game. And I’ve never known giving CPR (practice only, fortunately) to be comfortable.

Or blame fans and broadcasters for that matter.

Absolutely. Of course, Jack Clark missing that foul popup certainly didn’t help matters either.

Yeah true…

… no one ever said I could not move him to where I could do both at the same time. Plus I have an real oxygen tank for diving “accidents” that I could use to help him breath.

:: dial 911 tell them to send help…turn his body around to where I can watch the TV…give CPR…wait for help… ::

I can do it no problem. Hell being a CPT it’s a no brainer…provided the EMT isn’t watching the game and doesn’t respond. Otherwise, he is a goner.

Note: I have to go through CPR classes every 2 years to maintain my certification.

Close? Through 6 games:

Cards ERA - 4.80
Astros ERA - 4.80

Cards BA - .246
Astros BA - 2.46

Cards Runs - 29
Astros Runs - 29

Cards Wins - 3
Astros Wins - 3
Yeah… somewhat. Helluva Series, this.

BA typo… both are .246. Sorry.

It is a bit unfortunate the the Astros-Cards series has been somewhat overshadowed by the Boston-New York soap opera; as the performance of both teams has been spectacular. This has been the best year for playoff baseball in many a moon, IMO. I of course Root for The Good Guys™ but St. Louis has been a more than worthy opponent, and as I mentioned in an earlier thread a Bosox-Cards WS would be a perfectly acceptable outcome.

Since you’ve got Tiggrkitty to revive you (of course, only if you’re lined up properly with the TV), if someone came through with the defibrillator, can you send it my way?

That game wore me out. Albert has got to pick up his 3rd base signals, Izzy needs to close out, the bench has got to produce, what’s wrong with Womack, Matheny and Walker have to hit, etc. etc. etc.!

Game 7? Yikes!!!

Game 7 is coming up.

I just wanted to wish the Astros and Cardinals good luck. While I hope it is the Cardinals that come out on top tonight, both teams are exceptional.

Good luck Astros and Cardinals. May the best team come out on a win tonight and go forward in winning the world series against the Boston Red Sox.

This has been a real thrill for me, seeing the Cardinals compete in such a well matched race.

PLAY BALL!!!

Shoooooot. Cards 4 - 2.

At this point in the game, LaRussa is the MVP by putting in 10 for 24 on the Rocket Cedeno and then pressing, getting in Clemens head, putting him out of his stride and coughing up 2 hits for 3 runs.

Great baseball. That suicide squeeze was a thing of beauty.

I have been a baseball fan ALL my life! I have NEVER been so excited about a series in my life. I Agree that it is a shame that the Yankee - Red Sox series stole the limelight from two FINE teams playing the game as it was designed to be played at the highest level!

One has also to admire the fans at BOTH venues! they have proved themselves knowlegeable and true sportsmen in every sense off the word! I am proud to call myself an Astro fan!

I truely will be cheering for the national league in the world series! Actually I think it a shame that THIS isn’t the world series!

Great baseball… Cold beer. It don’t get any better than this!

Go Cards!!

Congratulations to the National League Champion Cardinals.

I’ll swear they played with a third nut tonite, pulling out without a doubt their best game of the seven. I’m disappointed as hell for the Astros but, seriously, the best team won and this is a loss we can accept. The Cards rocked.

You’ve got the NL torch. Make us proud.

Amen.

I was particularly impressed with Tony Womack tonight, making some great plays while playing hurt.

Great baseball. Both teams can be proud of themselves.

Thanks lieu, as I mentioned in Delores Reborn’s Pit thread, Dad is very happy tonight. He’s been a fan since he was a squirt living near the Arkansas/Louisiana border, and this has made him smile. He says they’re the best team in baseball, and the Astros have no shame in losing in a great 7-game matchup.
