I’m not so sure. Starting tomorrow I’ll have to follow someone else’s schedule. We have to plan vacations around the Tucson School District. Morning are going to start being hectic.
And I’m sure my sweet liile guy is going to start learning about things like Brittany Spears, racial insults, and picking on those who are different.
I like the school he’s going to, but there are some negative parts that are inevitable.
The next 20 years or so are just begining (there are 3 more kids after him who will start school in their time).
My son is starting a preschool in September. When they sent me all the materials this summer (handbook, health form, etc) I bawled. I can’t believe he’s already going to ‘school.’
Yeah, you’d be surprised how quickly the influence of the world creeps into their little heads. My son was thrilled to go to kindergarten. I cried all morning. They grow up so fast.
My son walked to school every day (about 1/2 mile). The first couple days I hid behind trees and stalked him all the way there.
Mine starts SECOND grade on the 25th. When did he get to be a big boy?
Sure the worldinfluences him, but it does also through television, the movies and just walking down the street. Just be there to temper the outside influences with your own opinions and values.
It was/is so awesome watching him start to learn… and to see the world all new from someone who was just learning about it.
Before you know it, he’ll be a Junior in high school learning to drive.
I’m sure you’ve already thought of this but I want to share anyway. Get a small archive box or start a file folder where you can put his school work. Each year at the end of the year you and he can pick out a few favorites to save. It’s a fun and relatively easy way to keep a sort of school progress scrapbook.
Also you might want to start the habit of him keeping a journal. He can draw a picture when he gets home first day and you can write a few of his thoughts about the day on the bottom or back. If it becomes a part of his daily arriving home ritual along with the snack, before long you have a child that is keeping his own picture journal and has better than the rest of the kids reading and writing skills.
When I was a kid I was taken to see Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and was very impressed by the good fairies caring for Aurora for 16 years as if she were their own. On her 16th birthday they make a huge deal over their only having her 16 short years and having to give her back.
16 years! That’s forever!
Until…
My Cynbaby is 17 and starting her senior year.
Cynbaby II is 13 and starting his last year of Jr High.
In 9 short months I will be bawling at two graduations.
I think I’ll start early…
My baby started kindergarten three days ago - and this message appeared in his backpack today:
“Blondechild#2 did not receive a sticker for good behavior because he had difficulty with self-control and following classroom procedures throughout the day.” Etc. etc., followed by a cheery “I know he will have a better day tomorrow!”
Excuse me while I go slam my head against the nearest wall – I always bribe teachers with the absolute coolest gifts imaginable to put up with #2, who is our wild child.
Help! Anyone out there with hyper-active, picky eater types? (Sorry for the hijack!)
