Acutally, the bank I work for (large community bank) does refund ATM fees from foreign ATMs, although you have to bring in or mail your receipts to the branch in order to collect.
But you know what, we’re in a business to make money. Banking is a cut-throat business just like many others. If you don’t want to pay the fees, bank with someone who doesn’t charge them or keep your money under your mattress.
I have zero problem with ATM fees. I figure I’m paying for the convienence of being able to bank from damn near anywhere. If I ever get pissy about it, I just do what ivylass mentioned: buy groceries, pay with the debit card and get cash back no charge.
