my big fat greek wedding

good morning friends,

yesterday sunflower and i went to see this movie. what fun! the amusing clash of cultures and families depicted was very entertaining.

it has no great redeeming social value, and the acadamy award nominating committee will most assuredly ignore it totally, but it is well worth the price af admission.

John Corbett alone was worth the price of admission.

It sounds really good and I’m going to see it today. I still can’t believe John Corbett is not on Sex and the City anymore, but that’s another story.

Cheers!

I think there’s a reasonably good chance that it will get a few Oscar nominations. It’s a popular movie, it’s a feel-good film, and there aren’t (so far) that many films that have an obvious lock on the nominations. I predict that it will get nominated in two categories but won’t win any Oscars.

I agree that it’s a wonderful movie. Concerning the Oscars, it might get a nomination for best adapted screenplay, since there usually isn’t too much competition in that category. I’m doubtful that it will get any nominations for acting though. There might be a better chance at the Golden Glboes because they have a separate set of awards for comedies-musicals.

Lola and I finally went out and saw this movie tonight…

We gave it two thumbs up… WAY up.

After having spent a third of my life working with Greeks parts of it seemed like a documentary… ha ha ha.

Nia Vardalos is also my new celebrity crush.

The screen credits do not show that the screenplay was adapted from any published work. Nia Vardalos may have talked about the same topics in her standup act, but that’s still doesn’t make it an adapted screenplay.

The film is very far from simply being the story of her own marriage. Other than the fact that

a) Vardalos was born in North America of Greek ancestry
b) she got married at about 30

and

c) she got married in the Greek Orthodox church she went to as a child

the film has almost nothing to do with her life.
