Frick. I hate hormones. Yes, they hurt. No, no “kiss and make it better” replies, please. The Llama’s got that covered.
I do not know why they’re hurting so much. It started last week; I thought it was friction from jogging at first. It started with a weird tingly-tender sensation around the nipples, and is now the whole freakin’ thing. Well, both freakin’ things. Seriously, just sitting here, the left one hurts. It’s almost an itchy-hurt. (This week begins the PMS week, btw.)
They don’t feel particularly swollen, but it does feel worse in the morning (just like all aches and pains do…in this case, it’s roll out of bed, and YOWCH!, gravity hurts!). I’ll be seeing my doc this week for something unrelated, so I can bring it up then…but is there anything to do in the meantime? And hell, any of you ladies suffering along with me in this?
Yes Ruff, mine ache terribly during PMS, I usually just take a tylenol or two. I wear my sports bra when I am home to give more support. Take it easy, avoiding jogging on those days, mine usually only lasts a day or two. well, unless you’re pregnant. Something cool, like a cool washcloth or ice in a washcloth may ease some of the pain as well. Feel better, you’re not alone!
I mean to say throw a big fluffy towel into the microwave for two minutes. Take it out and put on chest - aha, relief. This is also good for kid’s bellyaches, monthly cramps, i’ve-been-sitting-at-the-computer-all-day necks, and if you need a bear hug and that ol’ mr bear aint there…
I get that too, especially in the PMS days. My doctor also told me (when it happened in the off-season, so to speak) that it can be a sign of hormone or thyroid imbalance.
I like to take ibuprofen for it, but it takes a while to work.
Ummm, there’s no chance you could be pregnant, is there? Both of my pregnancies started like a massive case of PMS…not to scare you or anything, but if you turn out to be late next week, better go pee on a stick.
But most likely it’s just PMS. Kiffa is right, hot compresses are the way to go. I’ve heard good things about calcium, but you’ve got to take it for a couple of months before it starts working. I keep forgetting to take the supplements, so I can’t speak for it myself.
Go ahead and talk to your doctor, too. Are you on the pill? Maybe you could try a different formulation and see if that helps.
I have this phobia of getting pregnant while I’m engaged. It’s odd, because we’re engaged, fercryinoutloud. But, it would make family interactions interesting, and would mean the whole wedding plans getting shifted, etc.
I had a bit of a freak out last week because I realized Bri and I had had sex while I was on antibiotics (they can interfere with the birth control pill). BUT… 1) there was no internal ejaculation (this is our regular “back-up” method, just until the wedding), and 2) online research showed that the antibiotic I was on (Bactram, a sulfur-family antibiotic) has not been shown to cause problems with the Pill. All the antibiotics listed were members of the penicillin and tetracycline families, and I’m allergic to both. Even so, the pregnancy risk is considered low with those meds. Pregnancy, though remotely possible (and I really hate to consider that), is extremely unlikely.
Lately my PMS has been erratic. One week of tender boobs (and sometimes rather ugly facial break-outs), followed by one week of mild cramps and bloating, then followed by a week with Aunt Flo. I’ve been regular as clockwork, but this is getting annoying. Another month, maybe the boobs won’t hurt, but geeeez. I’ll be talking to my doctor about this later on in the week. I’ll probably get a pregnancy test, too, more to settle my paranoid fears than anything.
Oh, God, Ruffian, I didn’t mean to scare you. Pregnancy scares are just such a normal part of my life (the pill doesn’t agree with me & I’ve got really irregular periods) that I forget how traumatic the first few are. You know those multi-packs of pregnancy tests? Yup, I’m the target audience.
Perhaps it is your birth control. It probably couldn’t hurt to try a new brand next time.
BTW, if you did somehow manage to get pregnant, you will be the official Fertility Queen of the SDMB.
Ruffian, no offense, but how old are you, and has the boob-pain thing happened before with PMS, or is this a new thing?
I’m 33, and I’ve noticed that over the last year or so, my PMS symptoms have been changing. I used to get the tender breasts, but rarely do anymore. My cramps, on the other hand, have gotten worse, along with other things. I did ask my OB/GYN about it, and she says that as women get older, it’s definitely not unusual for their PMS symptoms to change.
But like tater, I thought I just had particularly bad PMS when in fact I was pregnant. Even on the last one, which resulted in my son, I still thought it was just PMS, and by that time, I’d given birth twice already. You’d think I’d have learned by then.
Molotov, I hear sticking your dick in a bucket of ice water does wonders ;). You could also try it with your other head.
How much coffee do you drink Ruffian? Reducing caffeine intake is supposed to help. Evening Primrose Oil and Vit B6 are also supposed to help with PMS symptoms.
It may not just be PMS , it could be fibroids. These are fairly common, and usually get worse with PMSCaffeine usually makes it worse along with alcohol.
Ruffian, why must you torment me so?!?! “Kiss and make it better” is the only treatment I know of for the condition you describe! Ah, that DeathLlama! Quite a sharp guy, to have you all to himself. Well, I hope he’s trying the aformentioned treatment with all the gusto you deserve.
I must admit, except for the technical terms, I know about as much about the female anatomy as I do about nuclear physics. That ain’t much.
No caffeine?! School starts tomorrow, folks. I’ll be going from my leisurely 8am waking up-while-poking-around-the-Net to forcing myself out of bed and into the shower at 5:45am, and being ready to teach at 8:15am. Tomorrow, at the very least, is a Coffee Required day.
Meanwhile, caffeine is a diuretic, no? Makes you pee and all that? How does it enhance sore boobies?
