My brother will become a man on Saturday, and I get to watch!

Before you all get any pornographic ideas about what I mean by becoming a man (I know kids grow up faster and faster these days, but c’mon!),

  1. he won’t be thirteen until the 21st, but
  2. my little brother (OK, half-brother) will become a Bar Mitzvah this Saturday.

So let’s raise a glass and drink a cup of schnapps to my little brother Josh! He’s worked his butt off, and he’s earned our unanimous Mazel Tov!

I must confess, though, that I’m waiting eagerly to see just how hesitantly my dad and stepmom are with their Hebrew; they’ve reviewed their very rusty (my dad turned 13 almost 59 years ago) Hebrew to participate with the readings on Saturday. They’re probably both quaking in their metaphorical boots.

I’m also really looking forward to seeing all the cousins and everyone, as the last time was in December at my grandfather’s funeral, which is not the best of situations for cheerful catching up (especially since that was after the 800+ mile Road Trip from Hell, last-minute plane tickets to NY costing what they do).

Everyone pray for the sun to shine over Queens on Saturday, OK?

Congrats to your bro - what a mensch!

  • tsarina, who obviously isn’t Jewish.

Congratulations! May I share with you a Bar Mitvah haiku (props to the fun little book, “Haikus for Jews”)

Today I am a
Man; Tomorrow I return
to the seventh grade.

Oh, yeah, make sure someone makes the little whippersnapper invests (or at least saves) most of his loot.

Congratulations!!!

Mazel Tov ;j
