My brush with terrorism (well, not really)...

First, see this story.

So no, the guy wasn’t a terrorist. But where do you suppose the Feds dropped off the guy when they were done? At the hotel I work at. Apparently they paid for the night, as well. Nice of them. Funny thing is, they instructed the lady at the desk that his phone was not to be activated for long distance calls. Could be that they just didn’t want to pay for them, and didnt expect us to eat it.

I hear about this when I come in at 11 pm. Well, that’s kina nifty, I think to myself, and in between this and that I’m watching the “live coverage” on Channel 2, a station out of Orlando, FL. The report wraps up, and about half an hour later I see the Channel 2 satellite van coming into our lot.

“Well,” I says,“This is either one hell of a coincidence or else I’m going to have to tell them to go away.” This man is my guest and he’s had enough trouble today.

The fellow from the truck comes in and asks if we’ve got any rooms. Thank you! Yes, we do, and as he’s checking in I’m quizzing him about what went down. He doesn’t know much more than what’s above, and adds, “I wonder where he is right now?”

“I imagine he’s curled into a fetal position somewhere, sir.”

And I make sure to give him a room as far from the pilot as I can manage.

I live about 30 minutes from of Ocala, and I heard about this the other day not too long after it happened. My parents were speculating about it for hours – my dad thought maybe it had something to do with the nuclear power plant in our area. Unfortunately we don’t get Channel 2 News out here, so I didn’t get to see that coverage.

Did you happen to catch the coverage on MSNBC? The reporter kept saying that a small airplane had been forced down in “OAK-uh-luh,” Florida.* I had to yell at the TV every time I heard that.

  • For those of you who don’t know the area, it’s pronounced “oh-CAL-ah.”

Hell, even I know that, and I’ve never beem near Florida!
