My car insurance payment has almost doubled.

This is what happens, apparently, when you allow your small children to reach the age of 16 and obtain a driver’s license.

I kept telling my husband it was a bad idea to let him go through puberty. And then he wanted to shave! And date! And now he’s out driving without me!! In my car!!! AND IT’S GETTING DARK OUTSIDE!!!

sniff

Stupid puberty.

Well, if it makes you feel any better I am 24 and I still occasionally need my mom. When I was sick a few months ago I called her and she brought me 7-up and saltine crackers. I was never so appreciative of anything in my life! I call her and talk to her about my day and what is going on in my life every now and again and I really understand a lot of what she told me when I was growing up that didn’t make any sense before I was paying my own bills. I really like my mom now. When I was younger she was just kind of there, and even though I loved her because she was my mom I didn’t think of her as a person the way I do now. I went through being a teenager and part of my college years really wanting not to have much to do with her but now she is the first person I call if something great happens to me and I call her for advice when something bad happens. I think of my mom as a person now rather than a talking atm/vacuum cleaner. It is amazing how that changes with a little time and distance. I’m sure watching your son grow up and seeing him pull away is hard, but if you did the whole parenting thing correctly he will love and appreciate you more once he has had some time away. Of course I am a girl so I can’t vouch for teenage boys, but this has been my experience.

Well guess what? I have good news…

He has the car, he’s out by himself and it’s after dark. You don’t want to know anything else.

On the plus side, thanks to where I work, he knows that if he gets pulled over, or if my license plate gets run for any reason, I will know about it. Sucks for him to have an omniscient mother.

I keep telling myself he’ll be fine. It’s just that he’s at the same age I was when i got pregnant with him and I can’t help wondering when and how I got this old.

Man, I remember getting busy in the backseat of my parents car like it was yesterday. Good times, man, good times!

What?
