My cat just swallowed my engagement ring. fast help please

Yes, I’m an idiot. I left a shiny thing on the counter while I put lotion on my hands.

Its not up his nose, I checked.

Do I need to take him to the vet, or just monitor the litter box? The ring will wash, its his insides that I’m worried about.

This too will pass.

If it hasn’t in 48 hours, then take him to the vet.

I’m skeptical. Most cats are pretty picky about what they’ll eat. Did you look all over the counter, on the floor, in the drain, and everywhere?

It will all come out all right in the end.

Yeah, I’ve never seen my cats try to swallow a metallic object so this surprises me. It might be worth bringing the cat in to the vet for an x-ray just to confirm it really swallowed it. Hope the ring turns up soon and kitty is ok.

The cat should be fine. Same for the ring.

Years ago we had a cocker spaniel that swallowed Mrs. J.'s engagement ring. It emerged undamaged in a day or two.

She’s still wearing it. After cleaning, I imagine.

Yes, my idiot cat swallowed my ring. I saw him do it. I have laminate floors so I would have heard it if it had hit the floor. I looked all around for it, my floors are clean and he was on the table in the middle of the dining room.

He is the reason I can’t leave foil out, he chews it. He’s been known to bite holes in beer cans.

I called my vet, who said that I should watch for output. If idiot cat doesn’t poop in a day, idiot cat will get very expensive surgery. He’s working on his 3rd or 4th life. His name is Lucky. He showed up on my doorstep, declawed and bullet fragments in his face. He had lived like that for months, on mean Arizona streets.

The ring is important. Lucky is more important.

edited for spelling. idiot cat isn’t doing anything now. PUKE you idiot cat!!!

There is no guarantee it will pass.

Take him to the vet. Now.

thats really my worry. he’s passed dimes before. my ring isn’t smooth. I’m really scared that he will block up. My vet says to wait until the morning.

So, now my new question is how to sift catpoop to find hiden goodies.

With your fingers.

With a hose, on cement.

Ickickick. thinks i like the hose and pavement thing better.

fmlFML

I can’t afford this. idiot cat. i just bought him some fancy feast and fed it to him. That stuff usually makes him poop big time. I had to give the other cat some of the fancy feast as well. Now i’m going to be sifting through 2 male cats poop. FML.

If cat poo bothers you you could let the dog eat it…

So – another one of those illegal immigrants in Arizona, without papers!
For many older cats, cows milk works as a diarrheatic; you might try giving him a nice bowl of it.

P.S. Remember the rules! Where is a picture of Lucky?

Looks like you only have one choice - marry the cat.

Bullet fragments in his face and a taste for bling? You should consider renaming him Fitty.

Any luck yet?

I’d rather pull a ring out of solid feces, personally.

Did it come out yet?

If it doesn’t come out, you might not need surgery. If an Xray shows it in the stomach, find a vet that has a flexible endoscope with a retrieval tool. Very likely to be successful and MUCH less expensive than a GI foreign object / exploratory abdominal surgery.

For sifting cat poop, use gloves or put your hands in plastic bags before, umm, squishing…

I agree with the recommendation to give him a bit of milk - so long as he doesn’t have a habit of wiping his poopy butt along the carpet to clean it.

More likely, it went down the drain.

Look in your sink’s U bend.
