My Christmas Eve Call Home To Germany.......

…to my one remaining uncle and my cousins in Zeitz, East Germany and my friends in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, West Germany at around 6pm European time.

As I am given to being emotional these days, I hope I can get through this conversation without giving in to them, but it’s a crapshoot, because when I hear their voices I will be reminded of all the German Christmases of my youth and how special they are to me.

It will be snowing there tonight…Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Startseite_Top and the webcams will show the Christmas markets as soon as it’s daylight there. Folks will be drinking their mulled wines out of thick ceramic mugs and walking around buying various Christmas-related items from all the vendors surrounding the town square. The Christmas markets begin around the time of our Thanksgiving and last as long as Christmas Eve.

Yeah, I sure miss my family and friends and this wonderful time of year over there.

Just some MPSIMS, but important to “the German Boy”.

Thanks

Froehliche Weihnachten, Quasi…

Hugs! And I’m sorry you can’t be there with them. I still live in close proximity to the place I grew up, so I haven’t had a reason to pine for the holidays as such. I guess I take that for granted :frowning:

Frohe Weihnachten aus Deutschland, Quasi, und einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!

Frohe Weihnachten from Cologne, Quasi.
This year is the first time in at least 30 years that we’re having a white Christmas. Very very beautiful - but I’m happy I don’t have to travel anywhere today.

Fröhliche Weihnachten, Quasi. At the moment most Germans divide their time between grumbling over having to shovel the sidewalk again and again, and grumbling over the neighbors not shoveling their sidewalk more often. Well, you know we are happiest when complaining
