I bought a new recumbent bicycle today, and a new trailer hitch rack to fit it. The problem was we couldn’t get the old rack off the hitch. We sprayed in lubricant, hammered at it with a rubber mallet, had three of us trying to pull it out at the same time, and got nowhere. We’d all given up, and I was making arrangements to get the bike later in the week, when I had my inspiration.
I backed up to a big street light with a concrete base, and put my cable lock around the concrete base and the old rack. First I tried to pull away slowly, untill I felt the front wheels lifting off the pavement – no luck. I backed up again and gunned it. SPRONGG! A huge popping noise and off it came, without any extra car attached to it. The sales guy and mechanic applauded as I pulled back in front of the shop. We got the new rack and bike attached and off I went.
FYI here’s the thread about my shopping for the bike
Well, I said it was clever, not brilliant.
