'My community has suffered enough'

Did Seligman and Finnerty’s parents want to see their sons destroyed and disgraced at the hands of a malicious prosecutor? I’d guess no. I’m sorry for Nifong’s wife and children but he brought this on himself. No mercy.

Well, Gonzales just might resign before November '08.

You want fries with that?

“What do I have to do to get *you * nice folks in this car today?”

Not necessarily. At least in CA, a disbarred attorney can become reinstated- it’s just a really long road with lots of odious hoops to jump through. But it can definitely be done- I know a gal who had multiple felonies which lead to disbarment (representing herself as a licensed atty while suspended, comingling of client funds, stuff like that) and after sobering up, she was able to work her way back. It took seven years and was damned hard, but she did it. She is now an ethical, respected member of the bar.

YMMV, of course.

Nifong doesn’t even have that excuse, he wasn’t a drunk nor a druggie, just an inept, myopic prosecutor. Let him never practice law again.

You left out trophy-hunting and publicity hound.

Step one

(emphasis mine). ya think the “caried away a little bit” excuse was ever accepted by him while a prosecutor?

Waited too long, if that was the record (BTW in my jurisdiction it’s an agency of the Supreme Court that rules on and actually orders disbarring: the Bar as such only presents the case and recommends). But even as huge an apparent collection of asshats as the NC Bar may have been over the years, and as well deserving of a Legal Nutcrushing with a side of Deep Reaming to go, as Nifong is, I gotta say I’m not pleased at all by the legislative expression… now he’ll be able to say for the rest of his life that he was judged by a body that was being threatened to hang him, or else.

He has indeed been disbarred.

Here’s a link in case anyone wants to read about it.

This is a good example of why I prefer a system in which prosecutors are not elected, and disclosure is absolute and immediate.

Huzzah! Now let’s get those “Gang of 88” professors fired.

Hot damn! Color me surprised. Now if the other camera-hogging souls who made pejorative and inflammatory remarks were called on account of their statements…

“Joining us now is our new Fox News legal analyst…”

Fat chance.

(a) Being an ass is not in itself a firing offense in academia; it’s often considered an asset  . Ward Churchill only lost his job because they had the goods on him on academic misconduct.

(b) Speaking of that, Duke ain’t Colorado when it comes to the University President having the yarbles to tell tenured faculty where to stick it; IIRC, the Duke Prez climbed aboard the bandwagon early and enthusiastically.

(c) I’m sure Opal wouldn’t, but the 88 are almost certain to baffle anyone challenging them with a barrage of metatextual BS about what they really meant and what we really mean and how this really changes nothing of the real meaning.

Hell, the very day the State AG said there had been no case, one of them whined loudly that there should have been a trial anyway so that “all the truth be known”. Which reveals a difference of understanding of what is it for that criminal trials are held.

There ARE people who will NEVER come down to say “the players were not guilty, Nifong was a lying snake and Crystal a pathetic liar”. Some will be those for whom the salient fact is that here exist these middle-to-upper class white boys (jocks even!) who were on their way to this society’s track to a satisfying life, and there exists Crystal, a lower-class black female sex worker who is stuck in this society’s treadmill to nowhere; and to them, that in itself is a gross “injustice” and anyone coming out on top must be made to “pay” somehow, regardless if they are at any fault. Some others will be those who are convinced that getting in trouble with the law and having your life ruined as a consequence is something entirely arbitrary that The Man dispenses like a Prankster God, there is no such thing as being “innocent”, so to have someone upon whom fortune has smiled, get away from being taken down, is somehow not playing fair.

Or maybe it’s just some people are congenitally predisposed to asshattery and that’s independent of intellect or education. Sure looks like that sometimes…

Guys, we’re talking about a county in North Carolina. What DA could be more fitting than Nifong?

I know you are being snarky, but I for one am glad to see that some minor amount of justice was done here. I have been the victim of a sexual assault, and for some stupid cum-dumpster to try to cry “rape” just pisses me off. And for a pension-hungry DA to ignore evidence and continue with proceedings against innocent men makes innocent people afraid of the justice system.

I am glad the bastard is disbarred.

I am glad his son got to watch him being humiliated. I sincerely hope he learns something.

I hope the civil suits that will arise from this will leave the bastard with nothing, and that his wife takes his child and leaves his sorry, slimey, lying, non-disclosing ass.

Which is as it should be.

What disbarred attorneys are on Fox News?
