2:26 a.m. and I just got home. That’s what we in the biz call “a rough close.”
I got a lengthy text from my mom that I need to re-read and process. But at the moment, Velcro Kitteh & the Devil’s Lettuce await.

I got a lengthy text from my mom that I need to re-read and process. But at the moment, Velcro Kitteh & the Devil’s Lettuce await.
Finally caught up.
Monday was colonoscopy. I have to go back in 3 years.
(I was going every 5 years.)
Tuesday was mammogram + ultrasound. Go back in 2 years (normal schedule in Switzerland).
Thursday was day 1 of the heat advisory which will last until Tuesday, and I went and did a fit check for the two blouses I’m having made. I had fabric left over from my bridesmaid’s dresses and decided to actually do something with it. I want to wear the blouses on the cruise we’re going on in August, to surprise my parents. My dad may or may not recognize the print, but my mom will.
Yay!. I know you posted that he’s been tired the last few days - hopefully it’s something easily fixed. Happy to see you posting again, sorry about the computer crash.
I’ve only seen them at Aldi, along with the other refrigerated pre-made carb products, such as filled pastas. And that’s only in the last few years. As there are bakeries at every corner, many people will just pick up freshly baked bread. And they don’t have to heat up the home.
I’ll be at the table with JtC and Swampy. For scones I tend towards raspberry jam, due to growing up in the PNW with Fisher Scones.
Hubby always says “sconces” because he knows it drives me nuts. But I say it rhyming with traffic cone.
If it wants to be yoghurt, make yoghurt? JtC shared a recipe and it works rather well. At least I managed to follow it the first time and it came out well.
Found it: A May 30 MMP - #113 by JaneDoe42
I’m not as cute as Mollie, but you forgot to mention the flour. My favorite scone recipe calls for bread flour. I make a half recipe, roll out the dough into a rectangular shape and cut it into 8 square-ish scones. And I don’t brush with egg or milk. The recipe’s fairly close to Sally’s, but less sugar and fat.
Yesterday we went to Lauterbrunnen for the first time. Basically a nature-made tourist trap. Way too many tourist, and it’s only June. Very pretty and we really enjoyed seeing the falls.
Hubby did not enjoy getting squeezed between somebody’s backpack (maybe there should be signs to remind people to take off their backpacks - I’ve seen this in other buses) and the ticket machine on the bus - he couldn’t breathe and even yelled, “I can’t breathe” which got people to move a bit.
Today we’re staying home and recovering from yesterday. This 35 C (95 F) is for the birds. We’re grilling hamburgers for lunch - really don’t want to warm up the kitchen. But we will a little bit. Or maybe I should put the ice cream maker on the patio. Hmm.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 84 with rain around one p.m. and possibly the rest of the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty so that means I serve both services. OYKW said last night he would be at the ten-thirty service and would go get us stoner food for today’s main need to feed. Works for me! We should be back in da cave before the predicted rain. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS inactivities.
{{{VanGo}} hopefully Ms. Peach has found her way back home by now. Surely she will realize bein’ around a source of food, treats, toys and skritches is for the best.
Oopsie and Mollie like the Lego wolves. I think wolves are pretty cool creatures, from a distance, of course.
Cat_Glove AIR (and I have a memory like a sieve) you are Orthodox, right? Glad y’all enjoyed the grad party and I agree hubs needs to chat with the doctor on Moanday.
Dicey you are welcome at the messy table when we have Mumper high tea. Maybe we should have those drape things barbers and hairdressers use. Burgers on the grill are one of my favorite things. I’m lucky to live somewhere that makes it possible to do that year round. I need to haul out the ice cream maker soon. Maybe some peach ice cream for the Fourth of July.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, at some point, (it’s early yet) purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Father’s Day (in Amurrika, at least) to all you fathers of both humans and critters!
Ms Peach came home around 4:30. Somehow she’s scared of the doggie door again. I “slept” on the couch downstairs and heard whining outside. No more outdoor unleashed until I do something about that part of the fence.
VanGo hooray for Ms. Peach bein’ home again! I know you are relieved. Hope you can get some sleep now.
Bear, you can be deheathenated all the time, not just at church! It sticks.
I hate going early. My only ride goes to bible study which I find too boring. So instead of hour and a half, its 3 hours. And its not enthusiastic either so I do check my phone.
Nice and sunny.
Tonight my Favorite podcast.
Good morning. I’m up early to go to Yoga in thr Park.
I’m gonna need more coffee though.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/69f with a predicted high of 26c/79f and cloudy. Weather app says “Oh, Mrs Sun. Please show the fuck up, you twit.”
In a lot of ways, that would make more sense although it would probably bring on the need for pearls and fainting couches! As I see Nut has already said, the right cream to use is clotted cream so it’s too thick to mix well, unlike pouring creams.
It’s not common practice here, but they will remove vehicles that are causing an obstruction. Our roads are not very wide, which is why much of my street has double-yellow (no parking) lines on one side, and allows parking on the other side. The police will usually only remove vehicles if emergency services can’t get through or in exceptional circumstances (if you’re blocked into your drive, and need to get out for work etc). I’m hoping the Heritage Centre gets a visit from the local community policing team, and I’ll be sending a message to my local councillor about it.
Oopsie congrats on the lab results! Definitely worth a celebration ![]()
VanGo sorry to hear about Ms Peach being an escape artiste, hope she comes home (again) soon!
Yesterday evening was fun. We walked up to the Clarendon and had a very yummy curry for dinner. Then we walked the rest of the way into town to see White Tyger and Sisters Doll at the Giff. It was packed, and absolutely roasting upstairs. We popped outside in between bands, just to cool down a bit. Had some fun chats with strangers, as you do, and after the bands had finished, we went up to the Posada where we met up with Bandana Dave and Record Store Stu. We left at 1am and got a cab home, had a cuppa and I went to bed.
'im indoors woke me up around 3am, very upset. He’d been out for half an hour, convinced Cherry had managed to get out of the house. He’d walked all round the local streets, calling her her every few seconds. He eventually woke me up to tell me she was missing.
I went downstairs, and there she was, behind the sofa.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s currently 70 degrees Ferret Height(21.111 Centipedes) with a high of 95 Ferrets. I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth. Spot is in the sunroom watching Jays Of Our Lives.
They usually feel that way.
But hope the tubes look good in 3 years.
Yay!
but don’t you want to ponder the significance of Peleg begetting Reu? ![]()
Or being sent to The Tower.
I have both of those, too! And I have a small battery-powered chain saw (not B&D) that will cut branches up to 6" in diameter. I’m a fan of battery-powered stuff like that. Except when I forget to charge the batteries and have to wait to use them.
Odd. Seems to me it’s easy to do a decent mac-n-cheese and not a lot harder to make a great one. No excuse for a business to make a mediocre batch. For shame!
Since the only ones we shop for are the grands, I can wait till November, unless Daughter mentions something special. Altho with kids, what they love in August will be likely ignored come December.
Last time Idiot Otis escaped, he killed some of the neighbor’s chickens… again… I hope Ms Peach doesn’t raise such mayhem.
We’re finally taking the boat out today to test the engine coolant repair. We’ll be out a bit longer than I want to since Daughter told the grands that we’d be watching the air show from the boat. I’m hoping they get bored early. At a minimum, I told FCD I want to be heading home by 3 to avoid airshow traffic after the Blue Angels. Anyway, we’ll see. I need to pack lunch for us and for Otis before we head out.
I slept with Mel last night so I’m pretty well rested today. FCD had a bad night again, but he refuses to take anything and he won’t stay in bed, even tho I told him I’d tend to Otis for breakfast.
So, a little more reading, then shower, dress, and pack for the boat. Time for our Northern Hemisphere days to start getting shorter. Happy Summer Solstice and Happy Sunday.
Woke up to a FB message from my daughter saying she won’t be coming because of a terrible headache and nausea. This seems to happen a lot. She claims that it’s migraines, but I suspect heavy drinking, which has been a problem for her in the past. If I confront her about it, it will just create a blizzard of denial and recriminations, so I’ll just stay silent. It’ll be a quiet Fathers’ Day.
Right now, it’s 60 degrees F, rising to a pleasant 71 this afternoon, about the time it rains.
Good morning!
Happy Father’s Day to those who are fathers or are in a father role!
It’s 50F and clear outside. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, with a daytime high of 80F.
Chef, I’m sorry your daughter won’t be there to celebrate today. Sometimes quiet is very nice, though.
VanGo, I’m so relieved that Ms. Peach found her way home.
FCM, I hope all goes well with the boat run.
BooFae, I’m glad Cherry was indoors. 'im indoors must have been so relieved.
Shoe, I hope the text from your mother doesn’t distress you too much.
My son arrived early in the afternoon, and we all had a good time hanging out and chatting in the backyard. Soon, both he and my husband migrated to the den to play video games, and not long after, I began dinner. The dinner was delicious, and there were plenty of leftovers for my husband and me, as well as for my son to take home.
Bright Tree, you asked for the recipe. It’s really nothing super special, just something I cobbled together many years ago, to stretch our food. The recipe originally called for sliced Italian sausage links, but now I use ground (loose) Italian sausage.
Recipe Ingredients: Italian sausage. I use mild, but have been known to mix both hot and mild. I prefer the mild, though.
Onions (sweet, but yellow ones are good, too)
Marinara sauce (can use any sauce, really), I prefer the marina.
Fresh mozzarella (crumbled)
Grated parmesan
Fontina cheese
Heavy cream
Rotini or fusilli pasta
Cook the chopped onion and sausage together. I tend to add more Italian seasoning mix, salt, and pepper. Also, cook the pasta while cooking the meat and onions.
After both the meat and pasta are done, start layering, much like you would a lasagna. A schmear of sauce on the bottom of the casserole dish, noodles, meat mixture, cheese mixture, sauce, and then a drizzle of heavy cream that circles around the outside of the dish until you reach the center. Repeat until all the ingredients are used. Bake at 375F for 30 to 40 minutes.
This dish started out in a round two- or three-quart casserole dish and graduated to a large, deep lasagna pan over the years. This is why I didn’t give amounts, because you will all have different size requirements. For the large pan, I used two to three pounds of ground sausage.
As I said, it’s really nothing special, but for some reason, it’s a real favorite among my family and friends.
I usually make a salad to go with the dish.
My son and Zeus stayed the night, and I’ve already fed all the pups this morning. They all went back upstairs to either sleep with my son or my husband, maybe both. They occasionally come down to check on me.
I’m not sure what the plans for today are; probably just hanging out. I’ll do the usual kitchen tidying, floor sweep (I have Zeus coat clumps everywhere), and plant watering.
Alrighty, time for more coffee. I hope you all have a good day. Please take care of yourselves.
Someone just across the border posted pictures of their home’s Japanese garden of Farcebook, with this text:
Wondering if anyone has recommendations for services removing horsetail and a few other weeds popping up in my backyard. I had a Japanese garden made last year and this year they are overtaking the gravel. I just don’t have the time to pull them out constantly. Attached pictures are from before they started taking over.
Since I didn’t want to be a jerk, I didn’t comment. But what I was thinking was, ‘Isn’t maintaining the garden yourself the whole point of it? Maintain the garden and meditate? I mean you have a Zen rake and everything…’
I defy anyone to stay zen in the face of a horsetail infestation…
Tis sunny and by local standards hot today. I’m not sorry I’m so far North this week, half the UK is expected to get close to 40C, including in places where almost no-one has aircon… That’s entirely too many centipedes for me to deal with.
I should probably be doing something useful in the house or garden, but I’m not. I’m slobbing on the sofa instead.
I have some work to do today and didn’t think I’d have time to post before I head to MD – because I really shouldn’t – but I am nothing if not a procrastinatrix so here I am.
Happy Fathers Day, again, to all who observe!
I’ve had a new handheld showerhead (for the en suite) sitting on the bathroom counter, in its box, since shortly after I moved in: this morning I finally took the pliers and plumbing tape out of my toolbox (on the main floor) and brought them upstairs. Progress! While the current showerhead is serviceable – it’s big enough, but the water pressure is “meh” and it isn’t adjustable; it reminds me of a hotel shower – I definitely prefer handheld models, and install them wherever I live.
Right now it’s 10:30am; I’ll head north in two hours. Here’s hoping that the I-495 and I-95 traffic gods smile on me (both ways)!
It’s only a 40-mile drive, but often a real PITA. My dad and brother and I see each other ~4 times a year, and we tend to share the pain: generally I go there for bro’s birthday and Fathers Day, and they come here for my and dad’s birthdays (3 weeks apart; we combine that lunch) and Christmas.
Very cute!
I’ll finish the wolf this evening, and will likewise share a pic.
The four other sets waiting for me are NYC - The Big Apple, Dumbledore’s Office Book Nook, Snoopy’s Doghouse, and the Shelby Cobra 427 S/C. And the one I ordered yesterday is Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops, so I could get the Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci gift with purchase.
(I already have the tributes to Jules Verne, Galileo, and Jane Austen.) I used points for that one, and was able to lower the cost by more than half.
Thanks. ![]()
I lost Bailey in mid-September: she was 17, and I’d had her since she was 12 weeks old. Thankfully, the rest of the drama didn’t really start until 8 months later! But yeah, a lot has happened since early May: part of a molar cracked off and I needed a crown, one of my project managers quit with no notice[1], a new hire started, and I moved for the first time in 12 years[2] (I’m still renting).
On July 1 I’ll be completely free of the previous house, and I hope to have a backfill for the project manager hired (if not on board) by August 1. I’m really looking forward to September, for both the latter and the usual “cooler weather” and “birthday month” reasons…though the Bailey anniversary will be tough.
Yikes. ![]()
Oh thank goodness!
Ugh, I hated that feeling; I had it occasionally with both Bailey and my previous pet (Smokey The Cat). First you feel terrified and heartsick, then murderous when you discover the hidden animal! ![]()

How interesting - thank you for that info. Looking into it, it seems some rural counties here do discourage mowing after 10am on burn ban days but it isn’t enforceable really.
Unless you do start a fire and then they’ll be along shortly to issue a fine and court summons.
Van Gogh sorry Ms Peach is being such a pill - it sounds like an Air Tag or similar might be a good idea.
That is crazy for your part of the world and far too hot.
Also, cleaning a shower without one is a pain in the patootie.
Quiet and uneventful day here today. I need to run a few errands but nothing exciting, and I’m also thinking about taking either tomorrow or Tuesday off. There’s a chance of storms those days and I love being at home with the windows open during a good thunderstorm.
Glad she made it back again. You are wise about unleashed outdoor time.
Happy Father’s day!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. RDOS day again.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Wishing a good Father’s Day to those who are, or have, fathers.
I’m glad Ms. Peach has reappeared.
My wife’s niece sent me a lovely Fathers’ Day message saying how much she loves talking with me and our common love of genealogy. Perked me right up, it did.
Another comfortable day at 71F. I’ll be making a quick stop at the grocery for a few things. Perhaps make breaded chicken cutlets for dinner with a nice side salad.
