My Cup Runneth Over- A Championship MMP

Looks good!

They were even good reheated for lunch.

Hey, doggio, did the Canes do something special or something? Seriously, congrats to the Canes, and I’m happy your team did you proud! :tada: :tada: :clinking_glasses: :clinking_glasses: :tada: :tada:

swampy, the monthly feast sounds delicious! Enjoy it, and please, could you all solve the world’s problems tonight while you’re savoring your meal?

yankers, fingers crossed your woes are behind you, at least for awhile. (Nothing lasts forever, ya know?) Enjoy comparative normal for now.

taters, every time I think about throwing in the towel on my place and moving to town, I read another tale of woe about thoughtless neighbors like yours, and I decide I can deal with it for a few years more. Your situation would make me nuts, too. Why are people so inconsiderate? Also, your proposed dinner sounds marvelous!

BooFae, stop being so productive! They’ll expect it every day!

Pretty spiffy, FCM!

rocker, sounds like you are making needed adjustments with the new tank. Hope things go as you want with it.

From the Old MMP:

I think your response is the perfect one, and I plan to adopt it. It will fall to someone one day to make a choice to deal with it, but it won’t be mine. Too fraught with emotion for me. I will however continue to inquire of friends and family if they might have some use for it. It is a very beautiful dress.

Harry’s family is… interesting.

Today’s weather is expected to be unacceptably hot, with highs climbing to 96F. Just no. I got my outdoor chores done by 10:00 a.m., and all other activities for today (such as they are) will be conducted indoors. Tomorrow is forecast to ease somewhat.

Ollie and I had a fine time with my friends yesterday. My friend’s husband manned the grill and made some yummy pork chops. He also threw on some pea pods from their garden, and those turned out well, too, except he didn’t think to de-string them. We got to floss even as we consumed our meal! We picked cherries off their trees to go with the chocolate cake I made for dessert.

Ollie ran himself ragged, then ate cherry pits (not from the cherries we were eating, just strays under the trees) until he got a terrible case of the farts. Made for an aromatic evening. I got a touch of something, too, didn’t want dinner and called it a night quite early. At least I didn’t get the farts. After a decent night’s sleep, all is well with us both today.

I tried to snag Ollie pics but didn’t have much luck. My friend did, though, so as soon as she sends hers, I’ll have some new ones to post. I think I’m going to have to remind her.

Dinner tonight will be that leftover shrimp salad I didn’t get to last night. The kitchen will stay cool!

Have felicitous days, everyone!

Looks good!

Well my day off as been a little eventful. I noticed a little girl (about 6 years old) had chased her dog down the street and caught him in front of my house and was crying. By the time I got my shoes on she was across the street and another neighbor had driven up in her car.

Now I recognize this dog because a couple of months ago a little boy about 3 or 4 chased the dog all the way to a busy street. Motorists blocked the street off until he and the dog could be caught and the cops had to be called because he didn’t know his mom’s number or where he lived.

So we load the little girl and the dog into the neighbors car. She doesn’t know her mom’s number either but can give us directions to where she lives. Then the brother comes running through the intersection headed past us but fortunately mom was walking down the street at that point and yelled at him so he turned around. She’s busy busting his butt when we pull up and she tries to ignore us and drag him home before I finally jumped out of the car yelling at her that we’ve got her daughter in the backseat. Mom had no idea the girl and the dog were gone too.

I try not to judge, but WTF? In the space of two months your kids have gotten out of the house at least twice without you knowing, and the boy made it nearly a 1/2 mile away the first time to an incredibly dangerous street.

But I did get to meet the nice neighbor that stopped with her car - she lives a few houses down and we exchanged numbers. She was incredibly sweet but based on how slowly she drove us back home she’s very lonely - I expect some calls or texts soon.

Good evening!

Today it’s a holiday here, commemorating the death of one the heroes of the Indepence War.
My wife and I spent the whole day cleaning the house because we recently replaced the kitchen roof (it was in a very ruinous state when we bought the house and was in The List to be replaced as soon as possible).
We now have a new roof but it took aprox 2 weeks of contractors working on it and creating an ungodly amount of dust that settled everywhere in the house.
Today we cleaned 80% of it more or less, but it took all day.

When I saw the title of the thread I thought it meant this cup :

Somewhat warmer today (high 70s). Warm enough on this side of the building to warrant turning on the AC for a bit.

Checked the tomato plant and found it has exploded in little cherry-lets and flowers. Another branch broke off, unfortunately. I just stuck it in the dirt and we’ll see if it re-roots. Found a couple of trellis type things to help prop it up as the load increases.

Had another run-in with the wife over my kids not visiting. She seems to think they can just drop their lives to drive over here. Truth be told, while I do love my kids and grands, frequent visits are not high on my wish list. I’m good with once a month, tops.

My eldest’s oldest boy, who I haven’t seen in years, sent us an invitation to his upcoming wedding. It’s in Duluth, and there is no freaking way we’re driving clear up there. He has to know that, so this is just a thinly disguised ask for cash. Since I paid for his final semester of college and never heard a word of thanks, that ain’t happening.

Hey everyone! Today was lovely, the heat finally broke and it wasn’t as muggy.

The church was packed for the funeral and we drove in the procession but didn’t go to the internment. Parking was very limited so half of the attendees split off at the entrance. Most of them went back to Harry’s place, but we are now home listening to the blessed silence.

We would like to stay home tomorrow, but I’ve got a couple of pre-surgery appointments and I want Hubs with me so he can ask his questions as well.

That’s insane, I hope those kids survive to adulthood. Its good of you to try to help

It sounds like a wonderful time, except for the dog farts and you feeling off.

Harry is such a hoot when he’s got a couple of drinks in him! He’s also peopled out, I just heard his mower start.

That’s going to be so lovely, I hope you see growth soon.

One of them will end up owning it at some point in time. Probably. IMHO, it would have been much less expensive to buy some ice melt and send the resident teenagers out to spread it when needed, but who am I to judge?

I think they go deaf and just cannot hear the noise anymore. I hope they take their kids and go home soon, that noise would drive me nutz as well.

What a nightmare week, I’m glad things are getting resolved.

I’m happy for you!!!

Howdy Y’all! Been home a while from the church house, but chilled for a bit first. A smaller crowd on hand but a good time was had by all. I bought sweet N.O.T. cause they looked good in the sto’ and indeed they were good. Both of us brought home part of our steaks, so steak and aigs for breakfast tomorrow. WIN-WIN!

Yanker glad you checked in. Also glad things are beginnin’ to look up for y’all. You deserve for that to be so. As to the binge watch, why not both? We frequently switch back and forth with binge watches.

MOOOOOOM it’s good to find a new yummy dish at a favorite place. Pollo Tropical does sound good.

Knotty may the now workin’ left hearin’ aid continue to do so.

JtC glad the dinner with Harry went so well. Glad he’s stayin’ around and will have someone with him.

Taters I grew up with four sibs and I am sure we were loud. However yellin’ and squealin’ was a no-no. My 'rents, especially my mom, would not allow that. Hope y’all enjoy the ribs and not you sallit.

doggio when they win the Stanley sallit and fish forks, they will have truly arrived.

BrightTree we do indeed solve all the world’s problems each month. However, no one ever listens to us. Then again, I know us, so maybe that is wise.

JtC glad the funeral went well and was well-attended. I know that meant a lot to Harry. Smart idea to take hubs along to the appointment. More than one set of ears can be a good thing.

52 yikes! Good on y’all for lookin’ after the kid.

“Why are my primates having screaming zoomies over another primate’s drinkware?” - Spot

A Saturday morning parade.

Nice but unlike Lord Stanley’s, that can’t be used as a baptismal font. Yay for the new roof, and welcome(the weather’s hot enough that having Frodo show up and throw a ring into my yard is on brand)!

Good idea, especially if you get one of those idiot surgeons who won’t listen to a woman.

Evening all. Watched a couple of soccer games (one at the gym while working out and the other over dinner). Also got my hair cut, took all of about 10 minutes since there is very little left, but what there is gets down over my ears and my shirt collar and that’s the signal I need a trim. Otherwise a quiet day.

Taters, kids are going to be noisy, but that sounds more like parental neglect and not caring than anything else. Hopefully today was quieter.

boo fae, glad you got a new Team Manager, hopefully that will ease the burden on you (yeah, right…).

FCM, some fine work there. Just don’t let Otis get too close…

doggio, you mentioning your Aldi run made me think of a You Tube I watched a couple days ago that I think you’ll like (along with any other Mumper who shops at/is curious about Aldi). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdKzZMLInJ4

52, that was quite an adventure and good on ya and the other neighbor preventing what could easily been a tragedy. Hope that mom gets straightened out or gets reported to the authorities for endangering her children’s lives.

Mollie, hope the new terlets are functional by now.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Bright Tree, looking forward to the pics, sounds like you had a real nice Sunday.

All in good time…

Cookie, sounds like your kids and you are happy with the contact, so keep on keepin’ on. And concur that grand-kid hasn’t earned any freebies from you.

JtC, hope the appointments go well and you and Hubs have your questions answered.

And time to check in with the Iranian soccer game (if they were allowed into the USA). Have a good evening all.

I’ll catch up with youse later. As penance for not reading, here’s some kittehs.

Amazing how fast they grow up, isn’t it? I’m noticing that Kasya’s nearly as tall as Buddy at the shoulder, and seems to be catching up on nose-to-rump length. She’s still a much lighter build, though, Buddy being the solid chunk of orange boy he is. Her face is also shifting from baby to grownup ladycat.

Yes, we see it in their faces especially. They’re both over 10 pounds now. Figuring out how to put them on a diet as Shiso has been round since we got her and is now chonky.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 66 degrees Ferret Height(18.889 Centipedes) outside. The heatwave resumes tomorrow.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 18c/64f with a predicted high of 23c/73f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Of all the fucking normal, mild, cloudy days, this is fucking one of them.”

Moooom the pics on FB looked fabulous!

That is an eventful day indeed. I’m glad to hear you and the neighbour were able to help the little girl and the dog, and it’s good to know that other motorists were able to keep the little boy safe too. I would have serious questions for the mother too, though. Sounds like she’s struggling to cope with two active youngsters and an adventurous dog.

Cookie I’m sorry the family visits are causing complications, I would be happy with monthly visits too if there are several people involved, it’s just too much otherwise. Agree with you on the eldest’s boy too. That’s just rude.

JtC good luck with the pre-surgery stuff, I hope you both get all the answers you need.

Lily them’s cute kittehs!

Busy day yesterday chasing around for marks and running reports, also managed to get a set of minutes finished so I was quite chuffed with myself. I did have to work an hour extra but it was good to have everything close to done.

I logged out of irk and tended to the needs of cats, then scooted off to the gym for a spin class which was ‘interesting’. The new instructor is very nice and very enthusiastic but I find the lack of variety in her class a bit boring. Came home and emptied the bins so I could put the rubbish out. Hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection, then flopped on the sofa while 'im indoors made dinner.

Today I was up bright and early, sorted the cats out and got myself showered. I’ve hauled the biiiig bin back to where it lives, and am checking through to see if any more marks have appeared in the system since yesterday. I’ve got a 2hr scrutiny meeting shortly, it should be pretty straightforward and hopefully won’t take the entire 2hrs although our exams officer is new in that role this year so I’ll need to talk her through the agenda for tomorrow and tell her what she needs to say in each section

I’ve booked myself onto a kettlebells class tonight so am hoping to make that. A new lady started talking to me recently at one of the classes, she works in pediatrics for the NHS and had a suicidal kid on the phone yesterday. I hope she comes to the class tonight, I want to see if she’s ok. She wasn’t really saying much yesterday, and I know it’s tough to deal with things like that.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 with rain pretty much all day. A good day to be inside and dry. It’s also laundry day. Envy me! Outside of that, today will be one of RDOS inactivities. Sup will be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit and cheesey garlic bread.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward to the laundry! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Today has started in the upper 50s! great for sleeping with windows open, but unusually cool for this time of year. And, of course, we’ll see 90s day after tomorrow. But today will stay in the 80s and I should be able to do the transplanting I have in mind.

Why should they? We’re just hormonal all the time, yanno…

Speaking of kids knowing their address or phone number, I know Daughter has taught Roxy her number - dunno about Tobias, tho. I also know they got a cheap phone on a cheap plan for the kids to use, just in case. It will live at their house and both kids have practiced making calls with it.

Sometimes when Daughter is running late, Roxy lets herself in the house after getting off the bus. Their house is literally right next to the bus stop, so it’s not like she’s hiking thru the forest to get home. And I doubt that she’s there alone more than 20 minutes at the outside. Anyway, it’s good to know that she’s got the resource.

Daughter got herself to and from the bus every day starting when she was 9 - we lived in a very safe neighborhood and she was responsible enough to pack her own lunch in the morning and start her homework in the afternoon. Roxy is pretty much the same at 8, and she’ll be 9 when Tobias starts kindergarten, so she’ll get him home if Daughter happens to be running late.

Back in ancient times, we didn’t need to know our area code so we just had to remember 7 digits for our phone number. Poor kids today need to know 10!!! And in my neighborhood, you either had 668- or 825- as the first three, which made it even easier to learn. In this age of cell phones, our area has 4 different area codes, and with all the military, you can encounter many more. Ah, progress.

Well, a little more reading, then I need to dress and get back into the dirt. Happy Tuesday!!

I will never understand why otherwise sensible people get so excited over a ball game.

59 ferrets (out of 76) and clear sky at 0800. Daughter has a doctor’s appointment today, and I’m going to go along because we’ll stop to do a bit of shopping and at the lab for a blood draw on the way home. I will, of course, take a book so I can sit in the car and read while she’s inside. And then I think it’s RDOS (in)activities the rest of the week.

Morning all. Up about 6am today, a fly got into the house and decided to play ‘buzz around the giant’s ears’ so since I didn’t have anything to swat him with at hand and needed to take the morning medication, I got myself up at started on the day. Another nice one has been promised, no rain and 82F for the high. Nothing much on the agenda except watching some soccer and maybe do a little house-irk.

Lily, thanks for the early-morning smile on my face, lovely felines.

boo fae, hope the scrutiny meeting (never heard that term before) goes well. ANd best wishes for new kettlebells friend. Can’t imagine the mental pressure she has to endure.

FCM, pretty much walked to school on my own (with my brother) from 2nd grade through High School, except one year I had to take the school bus, which stopped right across from my house. Never had a problem, thank goodness, as rotary phones were the up-to-date technology then.

Best wishes for a prompt and positive Doctor visit for daughter, Herald (and some good reading time too).

And off to get the day started with a big bowl of Corn Flakes. Catch up with y’all later.

May be I can explain.

Have you ever got excited over a novel? a film? a comic?

Now imagine that the heroes in your novel/film/comic are real people and they may (and in fact more often than not they do) fail.
The can’t usually destroy the Death Star, the Nazgul regularly take away the ring before it leaves the Shire, the Enterprise gets destroyed by the Klingons at least once a month…
And then, one blessed day everything works as if it actually was a book, a novel, a comic.
How can you be otherwise than giddy with joy?.

See my discombobulated post on the immortal 18th of December of 2022 for an example of a fan trying to express the same sentiment while being carried by the waves of emotion:

The secret, of course, is to suspend disbelief and convince yourself that the sport team winning actually matters, in the same way that you convince yourself that Luke destroying the Death Star matters.
