My Cup Runneth Over- A Championship MMP

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 60F and sunny outside. Clouds are expected to move in a little later, so we’ll have partly cloudy skies and a daytime high of around 73F. Thank goodness for cooling down!

FCM, I saw the most recent garden pics on FB. It’s really coming along and looking nice!

Chef, I’m sorry the kids’ visits/lack of visits are causing issues.

Lily, cute kitties!

Bright Tree, I meant to thank you for your recommendation. It seems familiar, but I’ll look into it. I have PBS Masterpiece, but I also have BritBox and Acorn. I have other streaming options, plus Netflix, too.

52, wow. Good on you and the lady for looking out!

Metal Mouse, yes, kids are noisy, but there is a difference between normal noisy and these kids. It’s just insane. And, it’s not just me. Other neighbors have approached them about the kids’ noise levels, especially at night.

Other than watering the plants, I didn’t really putter in the yard yesterday. It was hot, and I wasn’t feeling it anyway. It was, however, blessedly back to normal in terms of noise. I could actually hear the birds sing.

Last night’s dinner was delicious. The ribs were spectacular, and the potato salad was delicious. I think this is the first time I’ve made it this year. I usually only make it in the summer, and I don’t know why.

We have leftovers for tonight’s dinner, so that’s sorted.

I’m not sure what I’ll do today. Maybe some puttering, maybe an errand, definitely some RDOS time.

Take care of yourselves, please.

Good morning! A tip of my straw hat to FCMom for all your work as an earthmover. I’ll bet you’re thinking, “Making the bed has never been this hard!”

During the power outage, we were careful to limit our opening of the refrigigator, and consequently the temps inside of it stayed pretty close to normal. The mini-freezer in the back room, where we keep the ice cream, did not fare as well. The ice cream and the “frozen dairy product” got very soft, and when it re-froze the texture was different.

Fortunately, the weather during the outage was not uncomfortably hot. We opened the windows. We have a couple of surge suppressor/uninterrupted power supply devices; one to protect our computer, and another for the TV and stereo. Those things work until they don’t, eating voltage spike after voltage spike, and they don’t tell you when the next spike will be the last. The one for the TV was still working after the outage, but the one on the computer was fried. Mrs. Nott drove to Bestie Bye to get a new one, so I’m back online.

We put the 13-stars-in-a-circle Betsy Ross flag out for Flag Day, and decided to fly it until July 4th, Independence Day.

Not to the point where I started babbling in ALL CAPS with multiple exclamation points!!!

It would be even less understandable if it were about a kids’ game like baseball.

But that’s because you were reading/watching something alone and you knew or at least expected that the end was going to be emotionally satisfying.
Now multiply what you felt with a really good book ending by knowing that millions of other people are experiencing the same thing at the same time, knowing that it was not at all guaranteed to happen, that you were alternating between hope and despair in 5 minute intervals for 2 hours… and you get sports.
Of course some people can’t do it, some people dislike fiction too, their loss.

puck game.

In our house, we just get excited when the Washington Redskins/Commanders lose because FCD is a Dallas fan. Actually, I don’t much care either way, but I’ll support my sweetie.

Day 2 Phase 1 is done - I’ve made a border of liriope outside the scalloped border and it’s all mulched. The plan (no really!) is for the liriope to get all thick and lush so that mowing next to it will be easier than trying to get close to a physical border. Pic on FB - I’ll hold off posting more here till I’ve made more significant progress. You’re welcome.

After I catch my breath and rehydrate, I think I’ll move some more dirt and maybe start digging out the invasive growth in the area that will soon be lawn. I don’t know what the stuff is - it came with plants that my mom gave me. There are still some iris and lilies among the invaders - I’ll try to rescue them and either find space in these gardens or take them out front. Eventually.

FCD has gone to the boat to put in some soundproofing. We’re going to take it out tomorrow to be sure the engine is working correctly, among other things. Then we can plan a several day trek around the bay.

I promised the grands that they could spend the night on the boat - the other thing FCD needs to do is have the marina guys check/charge the V-berth a/c. Then I’ll work out plans with the kidlets.

Now, tho, I guess I need to get back at it. That dirt ain’t gonna move itself.

Good morning. It was 59ºF and humid this morning. There were a young buck and a doe hanging out in the wet spot by the trail this morning. This site greeted us:

We also passed a young lady walking while looking at her phone, who had absolutely zero situational awareness. That sort of thing just blows my mind.

We saw that Scotland won last night. We decided it was a good thing their match was in Boston. They may have had enough liquor for them. I understand their fans’ flight over here ran out.

Speaking of Scots: Does anyone else read BooFae’s weather app with a Scottish accent? I think it’s all the eff-bombs. AIUI, in Scotland “fucking” means, “Look out! The next word’s gonna be a fuckin’ noun!”

The new user name is under review. It’s a big step for me and I’m equal shades nervous and excited. I’ve been here for nearly half my life.

Swampy No judgement here. My deep freeze needs cleaning out, so there have been a lot of convivence comestibles consumed here lately.

fcm When Squeaky was little, he was a wonderer. We ended up equipping him with a phone/watch. It had a GPS (We Lojacked our son!) and a phone that could only call us. I think it was a Vtech or something like that. Daughter may want to look in to something like that.

Fingers - So, my takeaway is that Star Wars is real. (I knew it!)

Taters the PBS Passport is great. I get it through being a sustained member of my local PBS station. I loved Professor T, but I couldn’t watch after the third season. The scene of him putting his gloves back on after his former student died was too heartbreaking.

Knots Plays taps for the Ice Cream I have a Betsy Ross garden flag that will go up in the Pride flag’s place in July.

last night’s meetings went. the water change in the new tank went well.

i am considering pygmy corydoras for the tank. that would get a nice number of fish moving around the tank.

the neighbourhood is getting even more cranky about the world cup activities. phila parking authority is not a popular agency at the best of times. the towing has gotten a bit out of hand with registered vehicles being fined and towed. ppa’s response is “sorry”. this only enrages the residents. the road closures are resulting in more vehicle traffic on very small residential streets. this has endangered kids. the city did not have a plan for this fan fest. it is a daily event that has all the matches on a 60 foot screen. this means crowds of people from about 9am to the wee hours of the morning coming and going. it will be daily until the july 19th. the hours of operation will tighten up as less matches are being played. philly is the only city doing this. the other cities are game day activities.

scadian, babbling in all caps with multiple exclamation points!!!, scaring the cats/ dancing with the cats, dancing in the street happened when the red sox won in 2004; after the shock wore off. i did not celebrate the whaler’s win of the stanley cup, i left that to dogbutler.

along with a world cup game, a time capsule will be buried in phila on july 4th. when i think of time capsules, i certainly don’t think of one this big… America’s Time Capsule - America250 Capsule Contents - America250
you can click on your state/commonwealth/territory to see what went into the capsule to represent it. utah was a bit of an overacheiver.

It’s about as “real” as the World Cup  both Luke destroying the Death Star and their team winning the Cup will not change the audience’s lives one iota, they’ll still be as poor/rich/healthy/sick as before, but audiences cheer anyway, because they’ve convinced themselves that it matters, that’s the magic of fiction, that’s the magic of sports.

'Twas a dark and stormy night. . .and morning. Rain, wind and 50s.

A light breakfast, as we’re venturing out with other geezers for lunch later.

All puzzles successfully solved and time for ablutions.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have a podiatrist appointment this afternoon, but other than that, RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I agree. Team sports have no appeal for me

It’s used like a ball (hit it with a stick, like a baseball or a golf ball; get it into a target area, like a soccer ball or a golf ball) by people wearing brightly coloured clothes and special shoes. Only real difference between it and any other ball is that it’s flat.

Misplaced my cane a couple weeks ago, (I’ve only had it three or four years, so it hasn’t become a habit yet.) Finally remembered to ask at the commissary (last place I definitely remember having it) the other day if it had been found and turned in. No, but they had a couple of canes that had been sitting in their office unclaimed for several years, so they offered me one of those. Sure – why not? Having bought a new one the day after I realised it was missing, I now have two of them to forget.

Herald - When my father started needing a cane to help him move around, he decided that he would instead use a staff. He very proudly walks with a wizard’s staff. It looks much nicer and more stately than the aluminum cane I use after I get an epidural.

I used to be involved in the Society for Creative Anachronisms about thirty years ago. It was a lot of fun, there were knights and ladies and a King and their court.

(The King et. al was the one in charge of planning the wars and court feasts, it took a lot of time and money so they would get burnt out after a few years.)

Every year there would be a challenge tournament for the crown. Young people would be out in the middle of the crowd wearing duct tape covered armor and whaling on each other with long sticks.

Everyone attending lost their ever-loving minds over this staged battle, bets were made and plans to overthrow the current King were discussed while the young children would be in their own area with their own swords made out of sticks reenacting the same event.

There isn’t a SCA chapter close to us now, but there are constant “civil war” battles for people to lose their minds over, and those “battles” were predetermined by history.

So I guess what I’m saying is that folks like to recreationally lose their minds over silly games, no matter what form they take.

Eggzactly, it’s great.

Even I know that the mutt is all excited over hockey, and that that sport does not use a ball.

So… so you all are saying Star Wars isn’t real?

Are those extra toes I see on the black one?

Disagree. An invitation was sent, and can be politely declined. IMHO not being invited would have been rude.

That’s a beautiful picture - thank you for sharing it with us!

You were not kidding.

Bread and circuses. The Romans knew what they were on about.

I feel like JtC could assist in this matter.

This put a big smile on my face. I love this for him.

Atenveldt? We were both members of the SCA until our second child was born. Wrangling one child at an event was no problem, but when we had two, both under three years old… .

See my previous post (#52). If it has to be spherical like a baseball, then an American football doesn’t qualify, either.

Don’t be silly! Of course it’s real – I’ve watched it several times.

No extra toes, just fluff. She’s lying between my knees at present, all tuckered out by several nighttime hours of mania.
