My Ding-A-Ling! Dave Bartholomew dead at 100

Dave Bartholomew, an early rock and roll pioneer, was not only an American musician, bandleader, composer, arranger, and record producer, but co-composer of the nest innuendo songs of all time. He died on June 23rd at the age of 100.

So, everybody sing in tribute to this legend:

This little song, it ain’t so sad
The cutest little song you ever had
Those of you who will not sing
You must be playin’ with your own ding-a-ling

My ding-a-ling, my ding-a-ling
I want you to play with my ding-a-ling
My ding-a-ling, my ding-a-ling
I want you to play with my ding-a-ling

Very sorry to hear. “The Old Gumbo” and “Big Mamou” are two of my favorites (though I can’t find them on Youtube, so no link).

One of the groups that covered My Ding-a-ling was Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts.

That’s Commander Cody’s cover. I remembered it from waaaaaaaaaaaay back…

Damn, didn’t know he wrote that one. I’ve got that record, and love that track.

The first time I heard “My Ding-a-Ling”, I refused to sing the chorus.

Boy, did he get me with that last verse!

My mistake. I was thinking of Smiley Lewis! His version here.

“This act is over!”
