My Droid camera has gone infrared

No way in the menu is there a choice for this. My Droid- 855 model- camera has gone infrared. I cannot change it.

Verizon is clueless. Yes, I’ve pulled the battery to try to “re-set” it. I loathe doing a total hard re-set, as I’ll lose all of my Applications.

Has anyone seen this, and is there a fix I’m missing?

Could it be hardware? Perhaps there is a thin filter over/under the lens that has slid out of place?

I’ve seen cameras where you could disassemble them and remove such a filter to turn them into an infrared camera.

You can have all sorts of fun with it. Use your TV remote control as a light for it…

Most digital cameras can see and take photos in the infrared but they have an infrared blocking filter like SmartAlecCat mentioned to make the photos look normal.

I’m not sure if that’s how the Droid works though, this guy put a visible light filter in front of his droid and took infrared photos. So, maybe your phone isn’t detecting visible light correctly and all you have left is IR.

What are the actual symptoms?

Use Appbrain if you think you are going for a hard reset. Saves your apps offline.

Oh man- thank you for that. I’m calling Verizon again after they open and asking for a Motorola number. I had one at one point- and cannot find it. A real Motorola Tech Support number.

Hard Resets don’t worry me- loss of data and apps and stuff is always a pain. Thanks for this tip ! Is Appbrain something I find through the Market?

I’ll report back.

Appbrain from market, plus a website. Also if you are doing a hard reset, SMS Backup+ bungs all your stuff up into Gmail and syncs with the phone
