My DSL Service

Provider is Verizon. I’m in Texas, Dallas area. Does everyone pay $30 - $40 a month for broadband? Can a person use the Internet without this? What would it be like if I just canceled Verizon, please?

Miz, technologically clueless

Practically speaking, no. If you drop Verizon, you’ll need another company to provide access to the net. Here’s how it works: You —> Verizon —> internet. Verizon is an ISP, ISP is an acronym for Internet Service Provider. ISP’s provide the physical and logical connection between you and the internet. We pay about the same for our service with AT&T. Cable companies usually offer internet services, too but the pricing is about par with the phone companies.

Many thanks for the clear and concise response. I’m sure I’ve got it now.

Love your screen name, too.

Hell, I’d kill for a $30 a month net bill. Right now we’re getting like 30gb a month of bandwidth for over $80. So count your lucky stars and stick with it XD

Oh my gosh. I’m counting those stars. Thanks so much for putting me at ease, even though I don’t know what the XD stands for!
