Who's your ISP?

I’m being way overcharged for my internet service - $33/month for 1.5 mps. I’ve quickly found out that shopping for a new ISP is one of the more painful things in the world. NO ONE wants to put their prices on their website, and they make navigation as difficult as possible. I’m not all that eager to sign up for internet service from a company that can’t create an easy-to-use website.

So:

  1. Who ya got?
  2. What do you get?
  3. How much do you pay?
  4. Any other advice on how to find a good provider in my area that’s nice and cheap?

Time Warner
5mbps down, .6mbps up
$46.95/mo (Normally $49.95 but I have my own modem)
I don’t think you will find cheaper broadband than what you have.

ISP.

Damn. I so wanted to be first…
$9.99 a month dial up. They offer a $15.00 DSL connection. I keep it just for the email address.

Insight (being bought by Time Warner)
10mbps d/l, 1mbps u/l
was $50/mo, just went up to $60, since I’ve had them for 1 year now.

Earthlink delivered by Brighthouse

I have the 768 K for $29.95 plan

I was originally put into RoadRunner. Their website sucked. They were also unfriendly to Linux. I don’t remember much hassle finding prices when I switched.

Brighthouse also offers AOL, but I haven’t heard anything good about them.

I have Charter cable internet, 15 Mbps down, 3 up, for $19.99 a month. I have my own modem.

Cox.
I pay around $50/month (it’s hard to say, since I have a TV/Internet bundle), for 20+MB/sec down.

Verizon FIOS.

My bill is always different by several dollars a month but you can’t beat the speed.

Depending on where you live, they have different packages that they wont advertise. I have a Comcast internet/cable bundle and was paying $75 a month. I called to see other options and cancel if there werent less expensive. They had a plan that you sign a 2 year contract and have to pick up the cable box from a Comcast location but the cost is now only abut $40 a month. If you call they give you better options.

Verison DSL. $32.99 a month.
