What are you guys paying for your ISP's?

Just out of curiosity, huw much do you pay and what capacity is it. I’m wondering, because I get the impression that prices vary very much between countries and certainly 'tween ISP’s.

I have DSL, 2,5MB down, 768B up, fixed IP for $50/month.

Mod: Maybe this should be in another forum. Feel free to move it, if needed.

Okay!

I pay 40 a month for what is supposed to be 768 down, 384 up DSL. It is dynamic IP, and quite frankly, isn’t that great.

I pay ~$33 for 10Mbit LAN with dynamic IP. The ISP allows for me to use 5 unique IPs at the same time.

I’m back on dialup since my new home didn’t qualify for DSL when I moved earlier this year. This has since changed and I am on the waiting list.

I pay $19.99 CDN per month for my 56K dialup, and 1.5MB down/768 up DSL is $29.99 CDN per month.

I pay $40-ish CAN for Cable DSL. Static IP but I don’t know it’s speed (rates about 40 kbps up and down).

I work for a major supplier for ADSL and could get ADSL for $30 / month but I need to keep my email addresses.

$35/month for 768 adsl and included is a dialup backup/ travel dialup numbers.

US$9.95 a month (billed quarterly) for 56k dial-up ISP, with actual dl speeds of around 37k =[

I’m currently also paying $9.95 a month (billed annually :() for another 56k dial-up ISP as well, as I’m trying to decide if I want to switch over. This one tends to connect at around 40k. But more importantly, I hope it doesn’t disconnect me occasionally like the other one did. (plays havoc with online gaming)

There are several places to test your true speed, such as http://www.toast.net/performance/

9.95 USD for 56k dial-up at SISNA. They’re pretty bitchy, actually; they claim unlimited access but warn against “abusing the unlimited access policy,” so I can’t leave it on all the time. Aw well, at least it’s cheap.

2MB down, 256KB up. US$25 per month.

Nothing. Free at Juno.com
I might join their “platinum” club at $9.95 sometime soon.

Nothing. I have a free year of AOL that I got when I bought this comp. But it’s about to run out.

('jack): So…will it be 23.90 a month for annoying AOL and dial up? Or 21.95 a month, two months free, with new MSN 8 and dial up? Will MSN’s McAfee virus protection interfere with all the Norton stuff I already have?

I will have to decide within a few weeks.

$40 a month for MSN DSL, and I have no idea what the specs are on that, but it works pretty well.

In my opinion, both of the services you mentioned are bad, and over priced.

If you want dial-up, I suggest that you find a local ISP. That way you won’t need to install any software or deal with an automated phone system all day if you need to call for help. You can probably find one for $15 a month.

I pay about $40 a month for cable modem. The spped varies, maximum download spped is around 250 kilobytes per second, upload about 30.

I pay about $37,000 a year. Of course, they also throw in a room, food, and a bunch of classes, so I figure I’m getting a good deal.

I pay 45/month for Bell DSL. It hasn’t gone down in two years so I"m happy with it. I think it’s 1.2megabits downstream and 128kilobits upstream.

I pay about $50 CDN ($32 US) for three IPs on cable modem.

You are quite right, and I will indeed shop around. There’s got to be a “third party” out there (and many more).

No complaints here about NetZero’s Platinum service, at $9.95 a month. Their free service is limited to 10 hours per month, it has a huge, annoying ad banner, and is slow, because you’re competing with all the ad banner stuff that keeps downloading. The Platinum service, on the other hand, has a skinny little task bar that you can pretty much ignore. I never get a busy signal, usually get connected at 44k or better, and almost never get disconnected. It’s “unlimited,” but if you use it to listen to Internet radio all day, they’ll dump you.

I pay Comcast $40 a month for 1.5mb down and 128k up.
