My last day at my job is November 30th. I’ve worked my ass off, put in hours above and beyond what was called for, and generally have been an asset to the company. In fact, I’m now one of the the six employees that are still on payroll (from 40+ during the best of times.) Did I mention the top three are “directing”(read: ignoring as much as fucking possible) the shut down from their company equipped home offices three thousand miles away?
The others? The head of accounting and the head of purchasing, trying to sell off our remaining assets so maybe we’ll get a severance check or at least pay off “our” outstanding debts.
Me, left to inventory our remaining assets and toss worthless shit out.
The owner/founder/president of the company, who set himself up with a salary but treated the company as his private bank account.
His son, the COO. In the four years I’ve worked there, almost everybody newer then me has asked me what his duties are. Not even the VP in charge of sales and contracts (who’s been there longer then “junior”) has been able to answer that question.
The owner’s wife. She actually worked part time for six months (about a year ago.) The bitch still draws more money per pay period then the three remaining “real workers” combined.
So, why am I pissed? Their money, their company, their risk, right? Bullshit. Everybody who worked there went above and beyond what could be expected because WE ALL believed that we could kick ass, take names, make some money, and maybe have some fun while doing it. And we could have. Everybody in the day to day operations was near the top of their fields and dedicated to the company’s success.
I’m pissed because while cleaning out the offices of those who didn’t get to stay, I came across a memo by the top two non-owner related corporate officers (dated over a year ago) telling the owner what problems they foresaw and how we might solve them. THE VERY SAME PROBLEMS led to the company’s demise, and their advice was never implemented or (from what I’ve heard) even given serious consideration. By the way, the advice they gave was figured out by our competitors, most of whom are still doing quite well
I’m pissed because one of my co-workers asked the COO straight up if everything was OK because he had to buy a car that night (his car was wrecked and his pregnant wife needed something to drive.) The COO told him everything was great…the next day, my co-worker was (along with 20 other people,) fired/laid-off/declared redundant, whatever you want to call it.
Finally, I’m pissed because we’ve worked our collective asses off for these selfish assholes, and we’re all out of our jobs not because of our abilities or work ethic (or theoretical lack there of), but because the owner had his head so far up his ass he wouldn’t/couldn’t listen to what everybody else was telling him. Good people are unemployed because of those three, and the terrible trio are sitting in their paid for houses, driving their company paid-for cars (the owner even called the head of accounting to make sure their car insurance was paid up for next year), and by refusing to return company owned assets that might give the three remaining real workers a couple of severance bucks (or at least pay off the vacation time we have left.)
You might have started the fucking company, but we’re the reason it went beyond a PO box and four people sharing one office. Now, we’re the ones out on the street while you bastards enjoyed Spain, Ireland, and China after laying everybody off. I hope you had fun on your company paid for “Business Trips.” I’d also hope you got some horrible, debilitating illness while you were gone, but I wouldn’t want the guilt-filled, sleepless nights I’m hoping on you for the people you fucked.
Somehow, my normal “Peace – DESK” doesn’t seem appropriate, so to the people involved…
FUCK OFF – DESK
