My eye! (TMI)

So I’m sitting here at my desk, and I blow my nose, and air comes out of the corner of my eye. UGH! :full body shudder: I did not need to feel that right after lunch. And I can’t even replicate the feat, either.

I’ve always been able to do that, good for crocodile tears and a good party trick;
“Hey, put your hand above my eye!”
“EWWWW, is that… air?!”

Oh, god. I hate that! Every time it happens, it gives me the total screaming heebie-jeebies for days…

Sometimes you need to think outside the box, breathe through your eyelids, wear the rose in front, whatever.

That just set of my ‘ick alarm’

I’ve had that happen before, and every once in a while mucous too!

eww eww EEWWW!

About once a year, I can blow my nose and make my ears squeak. I don’t think anyone else can hear it, though.

I’ve had a cold and an allergy attack this week and last. I rubbed my eyes so much yesterday that I gave myself a black eye…on my eyelid. Yuk.

The best part is when you rub your eye and it squeaks.

When that happens I want to keep rubbing it to make it squeak more, and once in class my friend turned to me and asked “is that your EYE squeaking like that?” Freaked her right out.

Okay, so, you hated the way it felt and you didn’t need to experience it… and then you try to replicate it? :dubious:

My uncle is known for blowing bubbles out of his eyes in the swimming pool. Cool trick.

Well, yeah. Even if it feels disgusting, it would be a great party trick.

My eyes squeek all the time when I rub them. I thought it was normal, since on cartoons their eyes squek with rubbing, too.

I once saw a stupid people tricks episode of David Letterman where one of the guests snorted milk up his nose, then shot it out of his eyeball in a high, arcing stream.

It was AWESOME.

hm, my eyes squeek when i rub them…why is that? Actually, I will ask my doc on friday, I have an eye exam coming up=)

I have had [apparently] an infected tear duct, because one time I rubbed my eye and I got a solid plug extruded that was fairly sizable…but it never came back, and it never gave me any trouble after that.

I also have never had a sty, which I guess is a serious blessing because they are painful[?]

Does anyone know how this is physically possible?

The tear ducts are very fine tubes that drain from the eye to the nasal passages. Pinch your nose, close your mouth and blow, and the air needs to go somewhere. Under the right circumstances, the tear ducts will have air forced through them and voila, your friends are grossed out.

Cool, thanks for the info. Won’t be putting it into practice, though.

I’ve known about my ability to do this (only with my right eye though) for quite awhile. I started noticing a spray pattern on the right lens of my glasses, but I didn’t realize what was happening until I blew my nose while standing in front of a mirror and saw little bubbles forming in the corner of my eye.

I suffered a sinus infection recently that resulted in the usual spraying of mucus out of my eye; however, it reached the point where there were strings of infected mucus running out of that little duct and collecting in my eye. I had to rinse the stuff out several times a day. Interestingly, this never developed into a full eye infection.

Damn, just tried to do the ‘blow air though eyes’ trick. Didn’t work…
