As many of you may know by now my father, David, passed away Saturday. I want to thank all of you for your kind words. During the last days I spent with my father one thing he always wanted was for me to check in on straight dope and read any new posts to him. I am sure that this site was one of his great pleasures. We will miss him very much.
I’m sorry for your loss–it was a loss for us here on the Straight Dope as well. I’m glad to hear that we brought him happiness during the his last days as he brought us happiness for the years before. My thoughts are with your family during this time, blessed be.
So sorry for your loss. Your dad sure made a good impression on many of us through the internet, and though that means we miss him now, it also means we were enriched by knowing him, through this medium of technology that he probably never imagined would be possible when he was a young man.
I wish you and your whole family comfort in your time of grief.

Your father was a valued member and friend of this board. I was talking to my own father about David yesterday when we were out for our weekly Sunday drink together. We lifted a pint in his honour.
He will be remembered by people all over the world thanks to the internet and his great and interesting personality.
May this time be as easy as it possibly can for you and your family, especially your mother.

Sorry for your loss Mr. Simmons. It was, in a smaller measure, our loss too. Your father was a very interesting character, a man ahead of his time. The very spirit of a Doper.

I just want to thank you for letting us know how much pleasure David was taking from our posts even towards the last. It’s heartening to know he was able to appreciate some of the love and respect here being expressed for him.
You have my condolences. If he’s left so much of a hole here, I can only imagine how much more you must be feeling his passing.
