My favorite comic strip is ending, sigh

Totally mundane problem here -

One of my favorite comics put out the last strip today :frowning: I have a few I read every morning, and Stone Soup has long been a favorite. A year or so ago the author went to Sundays only, and now she’s retiring.

Thanks, Jan Eliot, for so many years of fun and thoughtfulness https://www.gocomics.com/stonesoup/2020/07/26

One of my favourites, too. At least my other top favourites, Breaking Cat News and 9 Chickweed Lane look to be still going strong for the foreseeable future.

She did go out gracefully, letting the characters know that everything was going to be o.k.

Mine went down 45 years ago, with Pogo. Don’t worry, you’ll get over it, and will be a treasure for all your remaining years.

I still miss Calvin & Hobbes.

Wait, didnt she end it about 20 years ago or at least relaunch it? Basically the kids had all grown up and were in college so she redid it and made them little again.

Eventually all story lines have to have an ending. Peanuts ended long ago.

SchlockMercenary ended a 20 year story arc last week, and I still haven’t recovered. I’m confident that there will be more stories told, but the author is on hiatus for a few months.

https://somethingpositive.net/ was supposed to end after 3 or 4 years but its been over 10 although no one knows how long RK millholand will keep it going as his physical problems seemingly get worse every year…

That was another strip-For Better Or Worse, I believe.

Yup, For Better or For Worse is rerunning. That’s another of my regulars, even though I’m now past where I tuned in originally.

Schlock Mercenary posted a strip every day for just over twenty years, in a hard(ish) SF universe, and it was funny, too. (Ominous hummm)

One of my favorite online strips is ending real soon-Go Get A Roomie!.

sad thing is most of these are webcomics …

My favorite strip, Cul de Sac ended some years ago when Richard Thompson’s Parkinson’s disease became too much for him to overcome.

My second favorite strip, Get Fuzzy, has been effectively over with for almost 7 years now.

Thankfully Pearls Before Swine nails it just often enough that I became a fan.

Moved to CS.

I sometimes forget about Cul De Sac but yeah that was an awesome strip, and too bad about Thompson. I remember at one point a bunch of guest cartoonists stepped in to cover for him while he took some time off to try and recover.

I’ve got some Amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. I should look to see if they have any collections available.

4 collections, 1 treasury and a massive complete collection in 2 volumes.

There’s also a tribute book, a book of Mr. Thompson’s artwork and his Richard’s Poor Almanac, if you’re so inclined.

It’s interesting (to me, anyway) that I will still get a good laugh out of C & H strips, but that The Far Side will only occasionally elicit a chuckle. TFS was a comic breakthrough when it was running and was very funny at the time; now, not so much.
