My feet aren't that big!

This is kind of a rant but nothing that I thought was Pit Worthy.

When it comes to shoes I wear a manly size 14. I recognize that 14 is on the larger side of the size spectrum and I’ve come to live with that fact. But while 14 may be bigger then average it certainly isn’t something I’d consider to be a monsterous size.

Why have I had such a hard time buying shoes lately? I recently moved near Little Rock and I had to go to three shoe stores before I found one with sneakers in size 14. And even at that last store I asked if 6 different shoes were in my size before saying “Just bring out anything you have in my size.”

This past weekend I went to Dallas and I thought I’d go out and buy me a new pair of boots. It was Dallas, there are plenty of boot stores, and everything is bigger in Texas. Or so I thought. I went to two different boot stores and both times was told that they had no hiking boots in size 14. Being a little frustrated I made my way to the REI store on 635 and to my amazement they had a pretty decent selection of boots in my size. Of course most of them looked like Hermann Munster should be wearing them but that’s ok. I bought a good pair for about 160 dollars that should last me a number of years.

Well that’s about all the mindless pointless stuff I have to share for now. I think people with big feet should form some sort of support group.

Try being a female. I wear a size 7.5 or an 8, but SO DOES EVERY OTHER WOMAN buying shoes. I find something I like and they only have size 5 or 11 left. Ack. The common sizes sell out quick and I thought stores would have figured that out by now.

I’m a 6 or 6.5. Try finding shoes in that size. I went to Nordstrom’s The Rack the other day and they had one small shelf of shoes in my size. Hubby walked over to the end of the row and they had a whole shelf (6 rows) of shoes in Women’s Size 12. No wonder Hooteewho always finds shoes there. I didn’t find anything. :frowning:

I used to go out with a guy who’s 6’8", and wears a size 15 shoe. He used to get comments on his size all the time, and usually took it with good grace. But it’s amazing how rude some people can be.

He was in a department store, heading for the shoes. A woman intercepted him, and said “Wow. You’re tall. How tall are you?”

“Six foot eight.”

“Wow,” she said, “That’s enormous. You must have a hard time finding shoes.”

He’d had enough. His reply: “You must have a hard time finding dates.”

Mr. Ruby has size 14’s too and cannot find shoes anywhere. It’s like a man’s foot is to stop growing at size 12. Unfortunately, what shoes he can find are, shall we say, not the most fashionable.

is it true what i hear about men eith big feet?

that they have big hands, too?

I’m 6’1 1/2" and wear size 10 shoes. Even then they are too big for me. Needless to say, I have no trouble finding shoes to fit me. In fact, I usually buy two pair at a time since my little sister wears exactly the same size.

In case you were wondering, by the way, I am fairly well endowed, so the joke doesn’t always hold true. At least not in my case.

In all my excitement I forgot to give a shout out to all the peeps with shoe size 15 or more. If I have a hard time with 15 I can only imagine the difficulty they might have. <sigh>

Hey, does what they say about feet hold for width too? I wear a 10 1/2 EE shoe… average length, but wide…

Oh that’s not so unusual. I wear 12EEEEE, on the rare occasions that I can find them. I usually have to make do with 13EEE. And man do my feet hurt all the time. My goal in life is to spend as much time barefoot as possible.

Yup, big hands. Uh, yea, that’s it, big hands…

I have a hard time finding shoes myself… I’m a size 10 and wide with high arches… not a good combo in the slightest. I never try to get dress shoes anymore. (I hate heels anyway… I’m already tall enough at 6 feet I don’t need to try and tower over more guys)

I also know my younger brother has lots of trouble too. Last I heard his shoe size was 13 and it’s possible he might grow more being only 15. But he’s already taller than I am (skinnier too… why did he get all the good genes?)

It’s always been hell trying to buy shoes for the two of us.

I’m surprised that women who wear sizes 6-8.5 have a hard time finding shoes. I wear a women’s size 11 and I can’t find attractive dressy shoes at a reasonable price very easily. I have found it easier to buy men’s size 9.5 athletic shoes, though.

I wear a size 10 women’s and an 8 1/2 or 9 in men’s depending on the shoe. I can never find anything in my size, at least not anything attractive. That’s why I don’t own hardly any shoes.

Somewhere is Asia, a man is making shoes for Americans. Most of these shoes are normal, but a disturbing number are just huge! What must this man think? He’s making thousands of shoes that are bigger than his whole lower leg. He can comfortably put both feet in one shoe!?

It must seem alien and bizarre.

Don’t even get me started on holiday decorations made in China!

Size 10 ladies. I have scads and scads of shoes.
racinchikki, you should come visit. We’ll go shopping.

What I want to know is…

Why in the world would a woman’s size 10 need to have an enormous heel on it? I’m sure there are exceptions, but the vast majority of women who wear size 10 are plenty tall enough already. Just give me some nice, practical flats already!

And I need to go shopping with you small- to average-footed people who say you keep finding those elusive size 10s…

Actually of late I have been buying more shoes… (They kidnapped me and made me want to buy shoes! -shrieks in fear-) Before all I ever had were my Tevas, sneakers, dress shoes and winter boots… now I have those along with 2 other types of sneaker/walking shoes, boots and am planning on getting another pair of winter boots and shoes this friday when I get paid…

My main beef is not that I can’t find them in my size… just that my size is most often too small. Half the time I can’t get my foot all the way in because the ankle is cut too small to allow room for my arches! And then they are also so narrow to get my foot to fit in I need another size or two up. Though I never shop at those fancy shoe places. Too expensive first off and second they never have my size. The best places are Pay Less and Wal-mart. (Got these gorgeous ankle boots for 20 bucks at Wal-mart.)

And I agree with the heel thing. I’m 6 feet I don’t need heels of any kind. The tallest heel I ever wear is an inch because any taller I fall over. It’s too high up. Sorry guys no stillettos here…

Okay. I now have a mental image of giggling Asian people on break, pogo-ing around the factory, each one with both feet in a single huge Nike.

Where are the attractive women’s shoes in large sizes? It doesn’t help that my feet are wide as well. I hate shopping for dress shoes, because I can never find a decent pair. It seems to me that if a woman has big feet, she probably has big bones, and therefore has wide feet. And I agree with the previous poster that I don’t need huge heels. Not that I can walk in them, but I tower over enough men as it is.
