I’ll be happy to take some pictures if you like. I might even get you a shot of the double dorsal fins, if the cotton hasn’t gotten too tall for the effect…
Uhhh… turmater? Red things you slice and put on hamburgers, or bacon and lettuce sammiches?
:smack:
It’s the assistants who have all the real power, MsRobyn. Now you know who to go see about future problems.
Snakes I don’t grow the maters. I have two friends who grow huge gardens every year for the apparent express purpose of giving everything away. I am always a happy recipient. Plus, I get stuff from the farmer’s market and local produce stands to “put up” every summer so I have nice fresh frozen veggies all year long.
When it’s time to harvest cotton, we have what is known as “South Jawja Snow” all along the roadsides. There will be little bits of cotton everywhere along rural roads. It’s ok cause it’ll go away after a couple weeks but it looks like there was this light snow in the middle of September. Okra, for those of you who don’t know, is the POD OF GOD.
Spats a mater is who yo’ pater is married to. Or should be married to. It’s also a delicious fruit that’s good in salads, sammiches, soup and stuff.
I’m ready for work way too early. I suppose it’s because I took a look in the mirror on the way to the shower and discovered that my hair was still in a manageable state. I’m still clean from yesterday, the hell with it.
Bobbio, I think I’d be offended by that fortune cookie, too. It’s subtle, but sarcastic.
Last night when I got home, I discovered that my passport has arrived! So no more dreams about being on my way to the airport for vacation only to realize my passport never came in. Six weeks and counting. Which means that sometime next week, I’ll start thinking about packing. Roomie makes fun of me for this–when I’m going somewhere I pack everything at least a day earlier than I strictly need to, so I can unpack it all the night before and re-pack it, just to make sure I have everything I want and/or need. It’s a little OCD, but it makes me happy.

lots of mini floods on my route home last night - traffic lights out and cops getting drenched while directing traffic - I was relieved when I got home to find my power on - but the cable was out - so no phone, no TV, and  no internet! So I got in bed at 8:30 and listened to the radio while playing with Smokey - I left the TV on so I’d know right away if the cable came back - and watched boundless lightening fill the sky. It lit the entire night up but I barely heard the thunder so the storm center was far away. Finally fell asleep for good around 2 am and dreamed I was awake waiting for the cable to come back . . .
Drae - I forgot - where are you travelling to?
Taters, there are lots of prayers and hugs headed out, and I offer up Mr. Lissar and Attacks Husband to go punch the doctor a lot if you’d like. And Driving Husband. They’re all very good at it. [SUB]Attacks Husband think Mr. Lissar may have cracked one of his ribs while sparring last week.[/SUB]
Hi, ems! Nice to see you!
Hello, scout!
You know what President’s Choice (which is a marvellous product line) just started making? Double cream. Double cream! 40% milk fat! I’ve read about double cream in lots of English recipes, but it’s never been available here. I bought some. I will commence eating later today and let you know how it goes.
Today I must do lots of laundry, go to the library, and do some banking before work. It’s very exciting.
Amsterdam. For my 30th birthday, I asked my parents for a trip to Europe, which originally was going to be Ireland, Scotland, and England. Then I investigated how much that would cost, and decided a week in Amsterdam would be a lot more fun than two days each in at least three cities. I’ll go Ireland next year, maybe. After all, I have a passport now, there’s no stopping me.
And besides, Amsterdam has museums devoted to sex, marijuana, tattoos, and torture. How can that not be fun?
{{{{Taters and TMom}}}} And add me to the doctor’s asskicking squad.
If I’d had to pay for it myself, it only would have cost $400. But if you can get your doctor to order it, you might end up getting it for a lot less. It’s worth a try, right?
Double cream, Lissla? Oh, my arteries are clogging with joy just at the thought! Years ago when I lived in Dayton, Ohio there was a local dairy that was still permitted to sell unpasteurized unhomogenized milk, and they also sold freshly skimmed cream. Which contained 46% milk fat. It was to die for. Trying to whip it was always a challenge – it would turn to butter in the blink of an eye. Umm…double cream…
My first day of Goofing Off™ was delightful. I got a lot of sewing done, and also spent several hours watching mindlessly enjoyable TV. Today is a rinse-and-repeat day. Then maybe tomorrow I’ll go be productive again. Right now I’m just waiting for the Tour stage to finish and also my Nano to finish recharging – I put on my noise-reduction headphones and listen to my Nano, and I can barely even hear my sewing machine. It makes the time just swim by.
Oh those maters. Why didn’t you say so?
Drae, I’ll need a full report from you so I can prepare for when I go there next fall, 'kay? 'Kay.
I overslept this morning because I was up late doing laundry. I hate doing laundry. I loathe it with the fire of a thousand layoffs. GRRR. On a happier note, the new pun is here:
Hee. Now, unfortunately, I must [del]do work[/del] [del]browse the Dope[/del] actually do some work.
I decided - for my 50th birthday in 2008, I am going to Hawaii. The International Competition is in Honolulu that year and I’ve never been to the 50th state (hey I just realized - I’m going to 50 for 50 )
I used to want to throw myself a huge catered party with a DJ and the whole nine yards (since it becomes less likely each year I will ever get married) but I think spending that money on travelling someplace exotic is a much wiser use of the funds. n’est-ce pas?
Nifty.
Morning. I know there was something I really wanted to come here and say, but I’ve completely forgotten. So I’ve got nuttin’.
Good morning all.
I just loooooooooooove fresh veggies out of the garden. I used to have a veggie garden, but I don’t have room for one at this house. I truly miss the smell and taste of a “just picked off the vine” 'mater.
Thanks again all for the good wishes for my mother and my family. I know she’ll be fine; it’s really the financial aspect that has her more worried. Also, she was so dumbfounded to actually hear the word “cancer” she can’t remember what stage it is. She just remembers that it’s two types. I’m really kicking myself for not being there. I just had so much work to catch up on, the boss wanted to talk to me, and I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY thought it was just going to be a cyst. There is absolutely no history of breast cancer on my mother’s side of the family.
Monday she going down to the Social Security office to sign up for Medicare Part B. She already has Part A. She can sign up for the Part B portion without penalty and be covered right away because she is still carrying her employer provided medical insurance. So, that’s a little good news anyway. After she takes care of that, she’ll set up the appointment for her lumpectomy (we hope it’s just that) and call about the oncologist too.
kai, I hope the liver biopsy results for your mother turn out fine. I’ve had one of those before. Good thoughts are winging their way to you and yours.
Hi ems! It was nice to see you pop in.
Sigh…I have to work now. I’ve got reports to do, so I need to run several queries and cross-check them against some other queries from other sources. I have such an exciting job.
Sorry to hear you are you are stressed! Sounds good, about the e-mail I mean, I’ll look for it.
I also love fresh veggies. Only this weekend I used my very first hot cayenne pepper from the garden. The broccoli, celery, and peppers are all flowering and growing big and strong. I’ll probably start getting those around August. Note that I don’t have a “real” garden, it’s all in containers on the balcony.
I do have some unhappy news, though - the ceiling is leaking in our spare room. We first saw the stains back in January and we TOLD the stupid maintenance people and they said there was nothing they could do about it, it was an “ice dam”. Now last night it started dripping so at 11 freakin PM at night we were moving stuff. And now I’m tired. They should fix it though.
Taters, include my best wishes for your mom, and all of you.
Criminy, am I busy today.
::sulks back away to do more work…::

Our 60th anniversary party went well last night. We had bingo, pokeno and craft tables set up around the pool. The food was good and the appletinis flowed all night. I was a pokeno dealer and those ladies played some hard-core pokeno! You’d have thought they were playing for real money. At the end, we “auctioned” off several prizes, the grand prize being a bathrobe & slippers from Steve’s hotel (the hotel we were partying at) and the chance to throw Steve in the pool. My pokeno table bought 3 of the 5 prizes, including the grand prize, but passed on the chance to throw Steve in the pool. So we all took our shoes off and dangled our feet in the pool and the caterer took our picture for the newsletter.
TMI alert: it looks I get to have not one, but two periods this month. How did I ever get to be so lucky? The one a week ago made the bathroom look like a war zone and this one looks to be the same. I already feel light-headed, dammit.
Me too, MBG. Just doing a drive-by…

Gollee! You all post like fiery demons chasing angel tail.
Or something like that.
Sorry to hear about your mom, Taters --my FIL has just been diagnosed with lung CA–never smoked, but my MIL did for 30+ years. He starts chemo next week-it’s inoperable.
I skimmed the last few pages (so sue me!).
I am now 44 years of age, having had a [sub]birthday[/sub] yesterday. The kitchen is coming along, I suppose. At this point, I am focused on grad school “boot camp” and so don’t have much time or patience for a kitchen that will not get itself done. Work this weekend, and Tuesday and then off to college–I wonder if there are any cute guys? Frat parties? Oh, wait, I’m married and middle-aged…
I don’t have to wait for queries, but I do hate sitting in front of any computer while it does its “thinking”. How aggravating that changing one factor is enough to triple the time.
I have cherry tomatoes ripening on my deck–they’re the only veggie I grow now (no time).
Sorry to hear of puking infants–I well remember those days.
off to tidy more parts of the kitchen–Ikea cabinet looks good–FIL fixed the other door yesterday (with my help and it took him 20 minutes, so I don’t feel like a doofus).
spats --your puns are getting worse. Seriously. Please reserve them for here, otherwise those soldier-girls may hurt you. Word to the wise…
Morning all! The day has started off a bit icky. I took Maggie wonderbeagle to the dog park. We didn’t stay though. A psycho lab was snarling and jumping at me the moment I walked in. And whatd id Maggie do? She stood by the gate and gave me the "You’re the alpha male, you fight him " look . When we got home, she flopped down in front of the vent, and bogarted all of my A/C. “Man’s best friend” indeed.
Still, no blood was spilled and I’ve had my flapjacks, so all is back to good for the rest of the (mid)weekend.
swampy I read you reply to MsRobyn as “It’s the asshats who have all the real power”
Drae, you’ll have to check if those museums have gift shops.
Just for that:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIGS!!
