My Five-Year-Old Niece's Take on the WTC Tragedy

My niece, who just entered kindergarten a few weeks back, went with my brother to pick up his wife at work. While sitting in the car waiting, my niece notices a flag across the street.

“Can we go park the car under that flag,” she asks. My brother does.

Then my niece places her hand over her heart and says:

“I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic
For which it stands
One nation
Under God
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all.”

My brother, doing his best to choke back his tears, asks why she did that. She replied, “For the people who died in those buildings.”

Make that last part: :frowning:

The kid’s gonna turn out alright.

Sounds like a good kid to me.

She’s a keeper…

Super kid. Absolutely.

…and some points to your brother and his wife - they seem to be doing a fine job.
