My four year old has the election figured out

Dad, you know those guys you told me about?

What guys?

Those guys that wanna be President?

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney?

Why do they have the same name?

It’s not the same name.

It sounds kinda the same.

Was that what you wanted to tell me?

What I wanted to say was, they should, um, they should just share it.

They should share being President?

Yeah.

You mean like both of them would be President at the same time?

Yeah. Cause sharing is a nice thing to do.

That’s an… interesting idea. But what would they do if they had a really big decision to make, and they couldn’t agree on the right thing to do?

Then they would just talk about it.

And what if they still didn’t agree?

Then they would talk and talk and talk until they both agree on the right thing to do for the world.

But what if they still couldn’t agree?

Then they could ask all the people who work for them.

They’d let the people who work for them decide?

Yeah, why not?

And what if those people couldn’t agree, either?

Then they’d ask the people who work for them, and they’d ask the people who work for them, and they’d ask the people who work for them, and so on. Gee whiz!

[I’m pretty sure she learned to talk that way from Dr. Seuss.]

I guess this is kind of a MPSIMS post, but it is about the election

Oh sure; let’s all just share everything and talk things through until we reach a mutually agreeable consensus! :dubious:

Who wants to live in a world like that?!?!??!!

I like this sharing thing.

I get Michelle Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I get Ann Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Sunday’s my day of rest, of course.

Yeah, the poor kid is going to be pretty disappointed in all of us adults when she learns how the world actually works.

Wonderful mature daughter. She’s learned to share before kindergarten.

No, no, no…
Sunday is hot Michelle on Ann action, DUH!

Around that age I made my mum quite uncomfortable when I said that I thought politicians wanted everyone to be happy.

I can watch and rest at the same time.

You can tell your kid that the Romans already tried that: They called their co-executives “consuls”.

It didn’t work out

Socialism!?

Why are you raising such a socialist 4 year old? Give her a copy of Atlas Shrugged already!

Maybe not. I think we’ve all worked some place where issues get talked to death and nothing ever gets done as a result.

That’s actually a close approach to democracy; we ask everybody, and go with the idea that more people like. That’s actually darned sophisticated for a 4yo!

Congress?
