His first name is Rod, and his a good guy, and funny as well. Help give hsi non-existant comedy career a much-needed boost!
Katie’s got better chops. She had her act a little better memorized and didn’t stumble nearly as much as Rod. The style was cliched, though, almost like Seinfeld’s “What is the deal?” bit, which IMO doesn’t take a lot of thought to work up. She did manage to throw in some amusing spins in the later half, though.
Rod’s got the storytelling style I like more, but he definitely needs to refine it so it comes out more smoothly. (“Dem-may Moore”? That right there threw me out of the act.) The first 20 seconds, up to “resentment bordering on hate” wasn’t funny so much as it was simply bitter; I didn’t see where the humor was in it. The bit at the end about comparing his penis to David Blaine didn’t make much sense, and left me cold in general. “My penis once held its breath for ten minutes underwater” – I’ll admit possibly there’s a joke I’m not getting here, but this went right past me. “Disinterested sex doll” and “it’s an illusion!” were good lines, though. He’s got the beginnings of a good act here, but he really needs to lay in more jokes and ease up on the bitterness. Bitter experiences make for good jokes, but the jokes still have to be there.
This is intended as an honest critique and not just slamming him. I went ahead and voted for him, because I think his style will probably work better with Dana’s, and if he can smooth out his act I think he could be pretty funny.
