Of course not, but if someone burgled my house and took of with Mrs. Plant’s purse, and I pursued them outside the house and stabbed them, I’m pretty sure that I would be arrested for assault. ![]()
That is the one reason I loved Texas, they let you execute burglars on sight when they break into your neighbor’s house. ![]()
My theory on assualting criminals. If they wanna bitch and press charges about being attacked so the crime victim/attacker gets 10 to 15, they have to plead guilty and serve their 5 to 10. If they are happy to just get away and not get charged it’s all good.
And the fact it was 4 guys with 2 in the car sounds like something way more sinister than a purse snatching was being planned. Perhaps the purse was just a “lets grab something for our trouble” at the last minute kinda thing.
Then again, criminals around the world can be dumber than dirt sometimes.
Do you think that’s a good thing?
Certainly not, if I were the one being arrested! ![]()
Having also walked in on my own apartment being robbed in 1999, I can say that my first instinct was not to stab the intruder. It was sheer terror and I froze. After months of not sleeping, installing alarms and images of that man running out of my bedroom, I wish someone had been there to make him pay for stealing my sense of safety.
And lets not forget the accomplice beat the snot out of my sweet future niece? Now, that said, I cannot imagine living with that image of stabbing someone, and I hope Dave is ok.
As for the guy with 7 new holes, I hope he aches everyday for the rest of his life.
Mint, they teach that you do what you train to do in such situations. If you havent trained or thought about it, doing nothing as you did is extremely common.
My state has the Castle Doctrine. It was amazing how home invasions rates dropped after several burglars were shot. Very effective indeed.
Well, I felt so stupid and helpless.
Perhaps some training would be beneficial.
Vacation home? In Mexico?
Why, that sounds like a great place to take the family.
Wow. I jumped out of a plane Saturday* and my family freaked out (I only told them after I did it). Stabbing a guy must be way up there on the freak-out-the-family/adrenaline rush scale.
*On purpose. It was a tandem skydive.
So does Arkansas, but I can’t chase him out into the street and shoot him. ![]()
The SCUBA diving is amazing, but I agree… and I think they do too in hindsight.
They got married in Zihuatanejo and I think they loved it so much they wanted a retreat in Mexico. And I would think it is cheaper than Barbados real estate. Probably because of the whole, you might die thing though.
Valid point.
I still cant jump on the criminals have more rights than victims band wagon.
I severed ties with a good friend after my own home invasion. In his opinion, if the burglar needed my stuff that bad, I should have just let the poor guy have it. My friend was a heavy pot smoker, living off Mom and Dad and sitting on milk crates, so it was much easier for him to be charitable.
I have worked hard for everything I own, and I am not a fan of some scumbag thinking he/she is entitled to my posessions. Especially when children are in the scenario. I am glad the guy is not dead, but I will admit, that is mostly because I dont want Dave to have to cope with that, not because the guy did not deserve a Phillips head to the chest.
And having said all of that, I will whole heartedly admit I feel very stupid on here most days. I pretty much hang around to let you MENSA heads impart some knowledge into my simple brain. I like to hear various opinions and hopefully learn from you all and I mostly stay quiet, because I dont have much to contribute
Afterward did he twirl it like a revolver, blow a puff of air at the tip, and spin it back into place in his tool belt? And then look at the camera and say “well, amigo… looks like you’re screwed”?
Then he put on sunglasses and a scream of YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA rang out.
Oh Mexico. What are we going to do with you? Such a beautiful place. Such a fucked up country.
Nor I. My main problem here is that the courts should decide what happens to the guy, because I’m pretty sure that if they found him guilty they wouldn’t stab him with a Phillips screwdriver.
Perhaps poke him with a flatblade on the way to jail.
Scary. I definitely think that homeowners have the right to defend themselves against criminals, but I think Dave and John are VERY fortunate that the criminals didn’t have any weapons of their own. Dave and John could easily have been killed if the criminals had had enough sense to plan for a confrontation and brought weapons.
I definitely would not feel safe in Mexico nowadays with the level of violence that the drug cartels are now engaging in. With the number of police there who have been killed by the drug cartels, I don’t feel like the Mexican police are truly able to protect anyone, not to mention the long standing problems with corruption there.
