My friend IM’d me and told me that the web development and design group at her compnay are starting up a consulting business. So she told me the name they cam up with
Joy of Techs
I immediately told her I thought it was a horrible name, but she said they all love it. No skin off my back, but to me it sounds flakey, corny and dumb. Am I just being a party-pooper?
Too gimmicky. It’s cute, but it won’t be taken seriously. It reeks of “Dot.Com-ery”.
Consultants need to be taken serioulsy by prospective clients, in order to close engagments & sales, and unless they are well known in the industry, ‘cute’ names are a serious minus.
It’s one thing to have a cute name if your end product is cute.
But if you are expecting people to shell out big bucks, it’s not a name to be taken seriously.
To me, the name reeks of some one not well versed or educated in the industry.
Furthermore, It seems like it should be a play on words.
I kept reading expecting something to jump out at me. Nothing did or I guess I am pretty dense right now.
Exactly my thoughts on the matter. The reference to “The Joy of Sex” was what popped into my head first. It may be a cute name, but if they are seriously trying to attract business clientele, then they should ditch the name and go for something more professional.
