My Friend's Company's Name: Am I Wrong?

My friend IM’d me and told me that the web development and design group at her compnay are starting up a consulting business. So she told me the name they cam up with

Joy of Techs

I immediately told her I thought it was a horrible name, but she said they all love it. No skin off my back, but to me it sounds flakey, corny and dumb. Am I just being a party-pooper?

Yeah I must admit thats pretty bad. Now “Joy 'O Techs” is an entirely different ball of wax.

Too gimmicky. It’s cute, but it won’t be taken seriously. It reeks of “Dot.Com-ery”.

Consultants need to be taken serioulsy by prospective clients, in order to close engagments & sales, and unless they are well known in the industry, ‘cute’ names are a serious minus.

Tranq, Consultant.

It’s one thing to have a cute name if your end product is cute.
But if you are expecting people to shell out big bucks, it’s not a name to be taken seriously.

To me, the name reeks of some one not well versed or educated in the industry.

Furthermore, It seems like it should be a play on words.
I kept reading expecting something to jump out at me. Nothing did or I guess I am pretty dense right now.

Bad News Baboon, one assumes they are referencing the book The Joy of Sex.

And, yes, it is cutesy and inappropriate if they are trying to attract business clients.

duh!

guess we know what’s not on my brain right now.

but that makes the name even worse somehow.

Exactly my thoughts on the matter. The reference to “The Joy of Sex” was what popped into my head first. It may be a cute name, but if they are seriously trying to attract business clientele, then they should ditch the name and go for something more professional.
