My front tooth fell out. Can I glue it back in?

I’ve had a cap on my front tooth due to a BB ricochet since I was 8 years old. It’s come out a few times through the years, and I’ve always gone to the dentist, who cemented it back in.

It fell out again this morning after six years with no problems, for no apparent reason.

Now, I’m a pretty handy guy, removing my own stitches and such to save time and money. I would like to save time and money again and put the tooth back in myself, if possible.

Is this advisable? Why or why not? I’m not above taking a little risk in this case.

What kind of cement does the dentist use? What else might be a viable substitute? Where can i get it?

I assume I’d need to make sure the cap and tooth nub are dry and clean. The cap fits perfectly and now stays in by itself due to suction and/or friction until I take a bite of something.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Try some sort of denture adhesive. That should hold it in place safely until you can get to your dentist.

I once asked my dentist if he used epoxy for tooth caps. He said he’d like to, but epoxy isn’t “bio-compatible.” By that he means if a piece of it broke off and passed through my innards, it would harm me. Most glues carry warnings about skin irritation and such. Go to the dentist, dude.

If you do a search on dental supplies, you’ll come up with lots of companies that you can order online from.

You really, really should go to the dentist, though. If you screw up, you could end up having to have the tooth removed entirely, which would then cost you even more time and money for extraction and partial denture or implant or whatever.
