My DishNetwork receiver spontaneously and occasionally decides to cycle to some random channel or series of channels. As the remote is IR (I think), and thus I would suppose line of sight, how could it be getting stray signals (I have it in a windowless room)? And how do I stop this?
Is it always the same set of channels? Most (if not all) Dish Network receivers can use IR or UHF radio remote controls. Chances are good that a neighbor has a box set for the same remote codes.
If you call Dish, they should be able to help you to either change the remote codes or disable the UHF remote capacity entirely. For all you know, you’ve been driving a neighbor batty by changing their channels.
What gotpasswords said.
Even though your remote is IR, your reciever may have an RF reciever as well that’s responding to your neighbor’s remote.
Go into your menu to see if it can be disabled or changed to a different address or whatever it uses to differentiate it from any others nearby.
And then get yourself a RF remote from eBay and have some fun with the neighbor…
