My daughter is listening to a cd and I ask her who is that?
EVENESENCE (SP?) she says. Lemme borrow that I says.
Someone tell me about this band!
That girl has one of the most BEAUTIFUL voices I’ve ever heard.

Google up “Evanescence”. The singer’s name is Amy Lee, and she does indeed have an angelic voice.
Will do.
Amy Lee has an incredible voice. Unfortunately, the lyrics are puerile and overblown and cliched, and the band chooses a Linkin Park, bland guitar-fuzz type approach.
Unfortunately she sucks live. Every time I’ve heard them sing live (tv shows and mp3’s I haven’t been to a concert) she has a real problem staying in key.
Still, I like the CD :).
She is gorgeous too, which doesn’t hurt either! Go to their website, http://www.evanescence.com , and download one of their music videos (preferably “My Immortal,” which is a departure from their fuzzy/heavy guitar sound).
The first thing I thought of when I saw the title…
He’s thinking of Evanesence
I saw them in concert over the summer. I didn’t notice any problems with staying in key, but the guitars did have a tendency to drown her out on a lot of the songs.
For an encore Amy came back out and performed “My Immortal”, just her and a keyboard. It was lovely.
My Immortal is an absolute masterpiece.
If you like “My Immortal”, you might also like “Hello” and “Anywhere”. Both great songs without a lot of background noise.
Let’s also not forget that she is all of 21 years old. Becoming a good live performer takes time and work.
Hopefully, Evanescence will outgrow their Linkin Park nu-metal junk and let her get that time on stage, cause she does have an amazing voice.
I’ve noticed that too. I always lose respect for that.
I think it would be a no-brainer to not sing off key. I mean, come on! My mom is a classicaly trained singer and she always was so demanding on herself, I think she’d be utterly horrified and would refuse to sing live if couldn’t keep on key. (She does whine about her voice sometimes, but she sounds great.)
I think that some of these people are pushed to go live too soon, or it is pressed upon them by the producer that it isn’t necessary to be able to do something so utterly basic like keep on key. Whatever—it’s a shame.
However, with all that said, I’m listening to My Immortal (thanks for the link). She sounds very good and the song is lovely.
Try Sarah McLachlan - Angel
She can do it live a capella.
Sorry but it beats Evanescance hands down, but then I’d imagine there is hardly anything around that can get anywhere near, perhaps “Autumn Leaves” by Eva Cassidy is pretty near.
Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins…and recently featured on Massive Attack’s “Mezzanine” has a voice that would knock Amy Lee or Sarah McLachlan silly. (but they have lovely voices too)
Well they all pale before Ella Fitzgerald as far as I’m concerned, but Amy Lee and Beth Gibbons from Portishead knock my socks off. And that’s not even getting into other ladies of jazz.
If you don’t like the guitar riffs, you might want to check out some of the songs from their first CD, Origin. Much more mellow, almost no guitars (on the songs I’ve heard anyway).
Nightwish singer, Tarja Turunen has an absolutely amazing voice. I recommend listening to a few of their songs.
You beat me to it, but she’s got an amazing voice when she goes all operatic.
Eva Cassidy had an absolutely beautiful voice. I also like her version of “Fields of Gold”.
