Google Answers has a post suggesting it had Richard Dreyfuss and Nanette Fabray in it.
Richard Dreyfuss was, at least, in “Two For The Money” suggested above.
Then there’s this page which might add a line to search for:
All of which leads me to ask…did we actually rule out “Two for the Money?”
ETA: My “couldn’t have been that many” was a reference to the typo by JohnDude, who claimed this happened between 1069 or 1071. Not 1969 to 1971.
I put this question out on another board I frequent. Here is one response:
"WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW (ASSUMING I’M REMEMBERING THIS CORRECTLY)
Hmm. If the question hasn’t had a definitive answer yet, I don’t remember the title, but the story (TV movie?) concerned a series of murders, where it turns out the murderer was someone who died years ago, but was hiding out until things blew over. If I remember correctly, the singing lady was a survivor of the original killing spree and she ends up killing the bad guy who had assumed another identity.
I think a pre-Jaws Richard Dreyfuss played the baddie.
I was hoping it would be “Sweet Sweet Rachel”, but I just watched that and that’s not it. Must have had some spooky title, otherwise I wouldn’t have been interested as a 7 year old, so it can’t be “Two for the Money”.
I remember the lyrics as “My hands are clean, my lips are clean, hey nonny nonny”. If it’s not “lips” it’s something else, she didn’t sing “hands” twice.
I was 7 and she scared me because she was so evil and creepy.
Made for TV for sure, most likely 1971. Color for sure.
I joined this site for the purpose of this posting. Found it in a search of the song.
The two titles made for TV I remember from that time were “Crowhaven Farm”, was able to get that on VHS years ago, and “Sweet Sweet Rachel”, found that posted on youtube. But I don’t know the titel for Nonny.
ALSO, it was not Columbo, McMillan, McCloud or Wild Wild West, it was a stand alone TV movie, not part of another show. If not 1971, then it’s 1972, but I’m pretty sure it’s '71.
I have been trying to find that movie for forever! My recollection is of an old lady in the backyard of some house singing that song with a pair of scissors held high and, maybe, going in the back door. That’s it. Ring any bells? I and my brother used to chase each other around the house chanting “Hey nonnie, nonnie” and pretending we had a pair of scissors in our hand. Scary stuff! You’d think we were playing, but we were freaking each other out! Then our mother got into the act! Yes, traumatized describes it very well…
The descriptions of Two For The Money didn’t sound familiar to me, though it was suggested several times. Now I’ve seen the bit I remember, and that’s the one.
Thanks, everyone! And thanks to KF.In. Georgia for the link!
Glad to see this one has finally been nailed down. I was still working when this thread started and I’ve been retired now for almost four years. Now if they could just ID the guy in the pic with all the celebrities…what, never mind.
I never would have expected it to have a title like “Two for the Money” because I usually liked spooky titles when I was 8 years old. Somebody else, my parents I guess, were watching the TV movie and I happened to see that psycho older woman. THANKS! I was wondering about that one for years. I only saw it once back in '72.
Great. I finally see an answer to this great mystery, but try and find that movie anywhere… good luck. You’d think someone could release it and make some $$ on it?
Of course the YouTube link is cut off. Got here too late! Unbelievable that something this obscure gets cut off. Now how am I supposed to watch it? :smack:
I did see the actual movie while the Youtube link was live. It wasn’t all that good even with young Richard Dreyfus. I think it was just the spooky lady that caused all the folderol.
So funny- I have been trying to find this move for so long and found this old thread tonight. It is a detective trying to solve an old murder(s). The killer disappeared. He hid in a shack underground and worked in a mental hospital under disguise. It is his mother who the police interview trying to find him but she has nothing to share. She just sits in a rocking chair knitting and stares out the window. Later they look out that window closely and discover a vent pipe coming up from ground. They go out and find the shack and realize she has been watching her son the whole time. The mother is shown singing “hey nonny nonny” and then pushed the scissors through the knitting. I think the son told her to protect him from these detectives that were goi g to take him away.
I was thinking the son was Anthony Perkins but haven’t found the movie.
