My husband was attacked last night...

He was out walking the dog around 7 or so and had been gone about 15 min. when he called me and said he had been jumped by five or six men. They pulled into a driveway as if they lived in the house or something, and as my husband was walking by one of them said, “Does your dog bite?” He said no and then the main guy punched him in the head, blindsiding him.

He’s not sure how long it went on, but it was at least 2 or 3 min. of them kicking and hitting him. He has cuts and bruises on his face and two big bruises on his head that the doctor thinks are definitely concussions. But his CAT scan came back ok and he has no internal bleeding or anything like that.

These cowards did this for no reason at all. They didn’t say a word to him or to each other while they were doing it. They didn’t take his wallet or anything else. Seemingly, there was no motive in the crime.

When the police arrived, rather quickly, one of them said he had already received a call about a group of men fitting the description. Evidently they did something similar in a nearby neighborhood. And a weird coincidence was that as we were driving to the hospital, there were a bunch of police lights and ambulances in the street. It was a car accident, and the car that got hit matched the description of the one the attackers were driving. I’d love to be able to get info on that accident, just to see if it’s the same guys. Of course, that’s assuming they find the guys who did this.

It was really terrifying for my husband. He thought for sure they were going to kill him and said he had never been hit like that in his life, and he’s played lots of sports and shit. It is mystifying to me how people can randomly do this to a person. It was also terrifying to me to get a phone call like that from my husband. And running down there to see him standing there bleeding was one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had. I’m just grateful that it wasn’t worse, although it was pretty bad.

He’s ok now, but I had to wake him last night every hour or so to make sure he was coherent and not showing too bad of symptoms from the concussion.

When he went to the area to look for his keys and the man who lives in the house right there was out and said the guys working on his garage last night saw the whole thing. I guess by the time they realized what was going on and grabbed a crowbar the guys had fled the scene.

I made 100 fliers today and put them in 100 mailboxes in the neighborhood to warn everyone and to try to get people to be a little more aware of their surroundings. And to look out for one another.

My husband already has a serious headache condition and it makes me sick that these fuckers hit him and kicked him in the head. He’s laying in bed right now, groggy from the concussion, and he’s in terrible pain all over his body. The feeling of helplessness is awful. I want to DO something about what happened, but I can’t.

And my best friend is out of town, so are my parents. I feel very weird and wish I had someone to talk to right about now. But there aren’t too many people I feel comfortable talking to about stuff like this.

Jesus Christ on a stick, that’s scary.

{{{Hugs for Indygrrl and hubby}}}

Here’s to hoping they all die in a fire.

wow. just . . . . wow. I am very glad IndyHubby is alive, but I am so so so sorry this had to happen to him. I hear things like this and my first thought is the perps were imitating some video game. I hope they catch the f&%#kers and I hope the cop interrogating them is a loose cannon that no one ever sees hit anyone …

I am so sorry. That feeling of vulnerability after such a thing is as awful as the aches and pains. I hope the guys are caught.

I wish that would happen, but unfortunately they probably won’t get caught on this one. I have no doubt these criminals will end up doing something worse and going to jail at some point, but beating up a guy doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to the police. The cop had already closed out the case when my husband talked to him today. But he said to call if we got any more info. Hopefully the men who witnessed the attack can help us out.

That so totally sucks, Indy.

Too bad when they came at him he couldn’t have pulled a “But this is not my dog” as Fido went all Cujo on them! (Sometimes a little humor helps!)

Just another indicator of the decline of civilization. Slack-jawed morons drooling over the WWF decide to act out some sick fantasy by stomping some poor shlub. On Hallowe’en this year, two women stuck a gun in a group of kids’ faces and stole their bags of candy. Both have been arrested and face 20 years on ADW charges.

Indygrrl,
So sorry that’s happened, stupid and senseless, what the HELL, WTF, and WTF again??? Hoping your husband is OK, and hope these idiots get caught soon.

More like wanna-be gangsters, but yeah, it takes a sick mind to decide to prey on someone out innocently walking his dog.

Holy shit, Indygrrl. That is seriously one of my worst nightmares. I’m glad Mr. Indy is okay and recuperating. And even if it is unlikely, I do hope the cops catch up with these guys, one way or another.

You can tell IndyGuy he taught me a lesson from all of this - if anyone remotely scary-looking ever asks me if my dog bites, I say “hell yes!”

Poor guy…sounds absolutely terrifying! Best wishes to him!

So they know to make sure and have one guy take out the dog, I suppose…

Dear god!

I’m so sorry Indygrrl!

I hope to f**k the catch the bastards and they get the punishment they deserve!

So sorry it happened. I wish I could do something to make it better, and all I can think of is “Is the dog OK?”

Here’s to a complete and speedier-than-expected recovery, both physical and emotional.

Just want to echo all the above sentiments, and hope your hubby comes through this well. Is Fido okay?

I hope your husband is doing better tonight, Indy. I’m sure he’s really shaken up over the entire situation. I send him my best wishes on a quick recovery, both mentally and physically. That has got to be weighing on his mind an awful lot, Indy. Jeez.
I’m also wondering about your dog. They didn’t do anything to the dog, too…did they?

This is so scary, because the way you described it means that it could have been anyone. Every now and then you hear these stories about random attacks, but you always hope that it’s never anyone you know.

If there’s anything we can do, let us know. And welcome back, you’ve been missed.

Damn. That’s seriously messed up. I mean, I’ve seen swarming in movies and TV shows and had no doubt it probably happens, but somehow that cements the reality in my head, and it isn’t the least bit Hollywood. Pardon my French, but it’s just utterly fucked up. They just beat him up for kicks. I’m sorry that this happened to him (and peripherally, to you) – that’s seriously scary. I hope they catch the little shits. Those types of kids have no place on the streets. Prison, boot camp, whatever – they need a size thirteen full of steel-toed justice. It’s good that they didn’t do more serious damage, but I hope he recovers well from the injuries he did sustain.

I’m so sorry. Glad your husband wasn’t seriously injured. Here’s another “hope they catch them soon”.

GT

{{{Indygrrl}}} How horrible. This sort of thing has happened here a few times, most recently the gang was made up of teenagers, the youngest being 13. They killed a man in his 80s.
I hope your husband feels better soon. I know the physical pain will go away, I hope you can both get past the emotional pain.

Why would the World Wildlife Federation cause such an effect? I think you meant the WWE.
